My First Dime/Nickel Bank Box - Coin Community Forum

mike1 New Member United States 11 Posts	Posted 03/09/2013 11:04 am i bought my first dime box found a 1999 east carribean coin silver edge but not sure if its silver also found a 1963 roosevelt. I found a 39 jefferson I thought it was silver lol. whats the rate of coins you find in a box for jeffersons,wartime,rosevelts anything else you guys ever found in a bank box of nikels/dimes? DobermanOwner Valued Member United States 125 Posts	Posted 03/09/2013 11:13 am I don't do dimes, but with nickels, I get usually get at least 1 War Nickel per box. I get a buffalo every 5 boxes or so. I keep any nickels minted before 1960 and all 2009's because of low mintage numbers. War Nickels are dated from 1942-1945 and will have a large mint mark directly above the montecello (monument on the reverse). Report this Post to the Staff

There are a few dates that are really difficult to come by: 1950-D, 1939-D, 1939-S, 1938-S and 1938-D and are called "key dates". Those are the top 5 (not in any particular order). I keep pre 1970 2004-2005, 2009, all s mints, and of course proofs. I have found some pretty decent finds from nickels. It is very rare for me to find a buffalo, but that is always nice.
