Lets see j and m is selling them for $15000 a 25% premium to the mint days after they release the set. I think the return in time will be quite handsome. I'm not going to buy glow in the dark dinosaur coins. I want coin coins that affluent collectors will want and these coins fit that bill. Rare gold coins!

FYI these coins went on sale in late November and as of two and half weeks ago the mint still had 7 of the 6 Coin sets available so I wouldnt say that they sold out immediately. As for the Cherry Picking...I can't say that this happened with certainty however I do have to question how almost 1700 of them were graded (MS 64 & MS 65)so quickly after the initiall release of these coins. I dont believe anyone is discouraging you from purchasing these coins I think it is only opinions you are hearing from members here. If you are successfull purchasing a set then please post some pictures as we would love to see them.

I was on the phone with them today 5pm est, placing a order. Talking with my mint rep was told there are a few sets left. So if you want one call the mint in the am, just got to get the right person.

If you can't get the 6 coin set maybe try to piece together a premium set minus the 1912 $10 premium. Only available as Hand-Selected outside of the 6 coin set. mint.ca still says phone only.

No I don't want a Frankenstein set I want a mint issued set but I appreciate the effort. I am only buying it at the issue price not 15k.

then call the mint in the morning? I've only said it 5 times, a few sets are available. Or how about I order you one and give you a great price of $14,000, since they are all "sold out"

Even at the Mint issue price, excluding taxes, a buyer is paying $5,875 for the 1912 Premium $10, box and bags. That is from taking the total $12k price of the set minus the other 5 coins at the premium hand select price.
If the coins in the set are really the creme de la creme, then yeah, I get the exclusivity of it, for someone who really desires a set and has money to burn.
I would want to see the coins in the particular set I was buying, given that there seems to be a wide range of opinion of the grades that are actually included.

The Mint store Manager in Vancouver this afternoon informed me, they are completely sold out in Ottawa. She is hoping to get a couple that are available in Winnipeg. She has mentioned to me that she has a wait list of 4 buyers here in Vancouver. And, she doubts that she will have them. With regards to quality of the Premium Set, I managed to take close-up photos of the coins that were in the Vancouver RCM Boutique, and the one that I saw we're pristine with nearly clear fields. The 1914 $5 coin was an easily MS-64+. The other coins were MS 64 at a minimum, and were even better than the individual premium hand-selected coins the mint was selling. Another well-established collector in Vancouver saw the set and stated it was a minimum of MS 64 and this collector who is also on this forum is so choosy with coin grading. This collector also has a premium $5 1914 individual coin issued by the Mint, and his mouth was drooling when he saw the $5 1914 coin in the Premium Set. If the other Premium Sets that were seen as horrible by other members here, then it was a hit and miss. But the one I seen along with the othe members of this forum was pristine and a beauty of a set. So if the other sets that were seen as MS60 to MS62 at best, it will just go to show and justify that higher quality coins are still difficult to find and obtain. So basically there is no flood of MS64 coins out there. As for saying that the coins were cherry picked by dealers, then J&M would have surely been able to choose and select their coins, but this was not the case, as other that have seen them did not say that they looked any better than the ones posted on this site. Anyhow, they just received their order a week or two ago from the Mint.

@swrbxxx: I have to say, with the Mint reps at the RCM call centre, there is only 16 regular reps, and 9 VIP MC Reps. I would have to trust with what tofuburger has said, and that it depends on the rep you call. The general reps are now saying all of their coins including all $10 gold coins are now sold out. I called them last week, and was surprised to hear that. The MC reps can still bend some arms to have sold out coins mysteriously pop-up for sale for their higher end buyers... For example the ones that just received a very special invitation for a mysterious gift. Not everyone has MC Reps at their disposal like yourself that will do anything to appease you since you represent the top 10% of modern mint issue buyers, and pay a majority of their bills, and contribute to their bottom line.

Quote: You were probably looking at the hand selected sets, not the premium! Heh... I am not quite sure how to respond to that... without the moderators rushing to remove/edit my reply... Yes, I examined two complete Premium Hand-Selected 6-Coin Sets. I also examined at least 12 of the Premium Hand Selected coins, and about 20 of the Hand Selected coins. Not a single coin would grade MS-64 with ICCS, CCCS or PCGS. Some were so baggy, with friction wear, they would be graded closer to AU. I think this is like a lottery ticket, only a couple will be winners... But hey... what do I know? I was probably looking at a bowl of golden foil covered chocolate coins.... If you want to pay $12,000 plus $1560 in taxes, for bullion grades in a special box (the box is limited to 140 mintage, not the coins) and send it to PCGS, then be my guest. Please share the final grading results (with photos) here....
