Quote: I never knew the "Glass" was hand made in Italy Yes, they said "Murano Glass". Murano - one of the small islands near Venice (Italy), where concentration of the glass factories. There are actually very small factories, where the glass produced (I do not know the proper word for this) by manual work, kind of "blowing the glass". The glass is very colorful and looks like liquid. The process is really cool to see, recommend. And of cause these factory have a kind of gallery / shop, where the items could cost you $50 - $10.000 even more. Bought small vase for my mom from there. So, I am assuming, that real Murano glass suppose to be produced in that region - Murano, or other island there.

So maybe that is why the price increase. Since. The mint has to buy the butterfly maybe the price has increased from when they purchased the bee. I thought they bought the glass from Italy and someone at the mint, crafted the bug. I just got off the phone with my post office, to order me one, no guarantee. The lady said the moment they are allowed to order, it's a race to log in and place the order. I didn't know the post offices had to compete, interesting. Rox

Real Venetian glass can't be made in Canada, just like champagne.

Since the glass bugs are hand made, I am sure they will add to the value of the coin. There are many people who doubt the success of these coins, comparing it to the Dino 2. But the Dino coin has 3x the quantity and this coin will sell out before hitting the public. It will be a hit.

This coin will definitely sell out before public release, probably in two days. I have a friend in Singapore who is so excited about this coin. You have new collectors all over the world interested in this series. However, I think ebay will be flooded with this coin in a few weeks, so I don't expect much appreciation.

Thanks for the insight silveroid! The Italian glass has enough of the "cool" factor, which led me to desire the coin! Does anyone know what day in April the post offices are allowed to put these coins out on there shelves for sale? During the release of the $10 mallard coin, reports were that post offices had the coins in there possesion days before the release date.....Is this a common thing with all coins at post offices?.....BTW I am a newbie in the Coin World, and dont have plans on becoming a Hoarder.....lol Cheers,WJ

^^^^^^^^ I believe it is April 2nd. But I will not count on them being in local office shelves. They will sell out so fast many post offices will not be able to get them. The last coin, the bumblebee, was really hard to find on shelves. Even if they were available they will be quickly snapped up.

I think the on sale date is April 9th and I agree these won't be on shelves, the max per outlet is two, but I'm sure they (Canada Post) are only allocated a small percentage of the total minted.

My post office lady told me, she had to compete to order me one. She tries to log in as soon as the post office can at 11:00 am in Alberta. So there is no guarantee, she will be able to get one. Who knew the postal outlets had to compete, to get their coins. Very interesting! I had assumed they were guaranteed access. I forget which day they are allowed to place their order. I hope this helps. Rox

^^^ pocket change 50....Just to clarify because I'm not 100% certain.....you are saying that there are specific days at 11:00 when post offices have to order specific coins and compete with other PO'S to get hot coins?
Did this day already occur for the glass butterfly coin? If not do you know what day the post offices order the glass coin?
......off topic abit .......but can you take non circulated coins like this $20 butterfly to the bank and cash it in for a $20? Not like id ever do it,but I'm just curious?....Forgive my "Green horness"....LoL
Cheers,WJ

WJ: yes, that is possible but most banks will not allow you to do this without filling out some forms or reject you completely. Look up some of the 20 for 20 stories.

I can't remember the day the post office here is placing the order. I believe it is very soon the lady is really excited, and is hoping to get this coin. From what I understand there is a set day and time when the post offices are allowed to start ordering the new coins. It sounds like they compete with one another to get the popular coins. She told me as soon as the start time arrives, she starts logging on to place her order. I had assumed that the post office would have already placed their orders. If I remember correctly, I was told by a mint rep, when I called, ordering starts on the 25 for the coin. I wonder if the various post offices become master club members. Just wondering, since some post offices are privately owned. I hope this helps. Rox

I look at the brochures the post office receives from HQ and all the coins have a order date and time listed. Should the outlet be slow on the draw, and the coins are sold out, then they can't order them.
It is crucial you tell the post office manager to order on the date/time the coins are available. However, busy outlets don't have the time and resources to order at the right time.
