Say spot silver, for whatever reason, spikes back to $30 within the next 2 weeks, do you think the mint has the ______ to jack the price back up to $149.95 halfway through the selling window ?

Quote: The Mint said they would resolve these "technical" difficulties by implementing a new ordering system online and/or increase bandwidth. Just goes to show you can't trust any of those governmental bureaucrats. LOL......it.s like the DMV, when your standing in line, all you can complain about is the lack of personnel and low tech equipment. But when they want to raise the cost of plates and licenses to get better equipment and more people, then hear the screams. I'd rather pay 139.95 and have to wait a day, than pay 179.95 so that the mint, on one day of the year, can process 100,000 orders per hour.

It helped me to log in first and then go to the catalog page.
Still, it was the slowest I've ever seen.

I very much like the look and design of this coin....one of my top 3 favorite designs ever from the US Mint.

I only bought one set last year from the mint, then bought a 70 set and 2 or 3 69 sets from ebay. I think I will buy 2 of this set from mint as soon as I can this time then grab a 70 set as soon as they are available. I do think the mintage will be over 300K this time around though based on the new version of the ASE.

Quote: Our online catalog has not stopped working. However, because of the large number of customers attempting to place orders for the American Eagle West Point Two-Coin Silver Set, you may experience delays. This product will be on sale through June 6 and there is no mintage limit, so try later when the site is not experiencing so much traffic. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience. Statement from the mint, as of 3:30 pm

I would think you're right tkflex to believe that the mintage will be high for this set. 2013 may break all previous records for silver coin demand upon the US Mint. As a newcomer to coin collecting, I know that I am adding my tiny part to the sales figures and I think that there may be plenty more newbies around as well as I think that more people are waking up to the fact that having precious metals (whether in the form of collector coins or bullion) is probably a very smart move in this age of uncertainty and paper investment corruption on a regular basis.

I'm hoping for the exact opposite with this set. I hope that the drop in silver price to sub $25/oz levels and the fact that the mint only dropped the price of the set $10 off last year's 2-coin set price will deter a lot of collectors from buying the set. I would rather a low mintage semi-key date than a ho-hum normal higher mintage. These are basically $70 eagles. One is really REALLY cool... but lets keep that part quiet so we can keep the mintage low.

Right....I totally get what you're saying TJB but I think that this may be a very hot selling set. Only time will tell though.

I have no clue what these will do mintage wise. Generally speaking the new coin never before seen makes me think it will be real high, but a lot of sellers got burned with last years sets with how many flooded ebay killing the price for a while so I also wouldnt be surprised if some of them rolled back their orders for raw sets to sell

Yeah, because there is special handling of the dies the coins deserve to be $65-$70 ASE, given that the proof ASE is $58, the premium is somewhat justified but when silver was last. $23-$25/oz, the proof pricing was $45.95, so really these should fall somewhere between $55-$60 per coin. That's Mint markup policy for you, they intend to get their share of profits.

I am of the belief this will be a very high mintage set but I have been wrong many times in my life. I can see both sides of the argument as the premium is fairly high while silver prices are falling but when you look at the performance of previous sets I could see a lot of speculation on these too. Oh well, I am in either way.
