But I actually think it would be better in Canada - a Buffalo nickel would be more different but less known. The recipient would be more likely to look up an American old coin than a Canadian old coin (which would probably just be hoarded somewhere). Or they could spend it without noticing, who knows?

The contest was open to Canadians; in fact one of the winners is Canadian.

I'm expecting something pretty interesting from up north.

I hope everyone is having fun so far.

Can I enter the second part of the contest if I use my own Buffalo nickel? I've got some great ideas, and I want to try it anyway.

You can absolutely take part and tell your story, in fact it would be great if you did. But only the official first round winners are eligible for the prize.

I hope you share your story and ideas!

I got the first three addresses and instead of waiting for everyone I'll send out the first batch 'o Buffs tomorrow.

Trickworm and HaroldS email me with your mailing address so I can send your Buffs out to you.

Remember, putting the Buffs in circulation is going to be the fun part.

This is going to be fun. I can't wait to read the stories of how the coins were returned to the wild.

HaroldS, I'm sorry but since you haven't contacted me I have selected an alternate first round winner.

Going back to the random number generator we have a new first round winner. Congratulations oih82w8, number 15 came up.

Please contact me with your address. I'm also going to send you an email.

I already spent my nickel! =) (Remember, I am using my own nickel)
I dropped it into a "Take a penny" jar. Someone out there is going to get interested in coins! (Or at least intrigued enough to look it up) =) I just wish I could have been there to see the look on the person's face who picked it up...
Too bad I didn't win anything, but it was still fun!

P.S.- I think we should do the same thing for a Mercury dime or an Indian penny next!

I got my nickels released! I hope this doesn't get me DQ'd because I didn't exactly put them into circulation..
My dad and I were CRHing the other day, and it's only the 2nd time he's done it. I'm starting to get him into collecting as well.
Anyways, I let him go through the nickels, I went through some pennies.
I already went through the nickels and had put the Buffalo nickels each in a different roll.
He was amazed when he found all 5 in the end. I never knew someone could be so happy over dateless Buffalos.
So far he has almost no coins in his collection but finding those coins gave him a few more and I'm hoping it will get him even more into the hobby.
I apologize for not putting them into circulation though.
Thanks for the contest!
