I received my Buffs today. Here is my plan:
I am going to write my email along the edge of coin and give them out as change at work on wednesday and at various high traffic areas in town. I will then see if I get a reply and will post that email here. I hope it works out.

Mine arrived today (for some reason I thought it was one nickel - not five!). Arrangements have been made to release them tomorrow - will update hopefully that night or within a few days of that at the worst.

I gave one away as part of a tip at Genghis Grill today at lunch. The waitress chased me down in the parking lot to ask me what it was. I told her it was called a Buffalo nickel and it was minted between 1913 and 1938. She asked "how much is it?" I assumed she meant face value so I told her it's worth .05 cents face, but people like to collect them. She looked at it for a second then said "This is so cool!" and ran back inside. I guess she was happy. 4 to go.

xZACKx:
If the coin goes from one person to another it fits my definition of circulation. I think your story is terrific. Isn't it amazing how much happiness a dateless Buff can bring?

She seemed really genuinely fascinated by it, like she'd never seen anything at all like it. I'd say she's at least doing research about Buffalo nickels now.

I think she thought it was fake at first. She seemed like the kind of person who doesn't realize there's a world outside of her evening television programs. She was really cute though. Planning to release a second Buffalo nickel tonight...just gotta figure out how I want to do it.

Okay here's my release tale, I hope it isn't cheating that it required me releasing 19 of my own coins into the wild at the same time! I have a sibling who is a grade school teacher, and she is always looking for fun ways to teach. Gathering together 3 of the buffalo's (I originally thought it was going to be one, but when 5 arrived I was able to use more) and nearly twenty of my own common world coins - all with animals on them - I gave them to her to give out to her class. The catch - each student would randomly get one coin from the bag (which they would get to keep) and then have to do a small project (very small - as it's a pretty low grade). One half of the project would be for their science class on the animal depicted on the coin, and the second half as a bit of a geography lesson on the country of the coin. From what she's told me tonight, the kids couldn't stop talking about the "free" coin they got today. I'd like to be able to say the Buffalo nickel was the biggest hit, however it sounds like a pair of Aussie coins got the most Oohh's and Ahhh's (the penny for having a Kangaroo, and the 20c for being 20 cents and having a platypus LOL). So that's my release story. As for the other two buffalo's, I simply gave them to her two young kids. The younger was excited for about 10 seconds before wandering off, but the older was thrilled and has really started taking an interest in my coins - even helped me roll hunt a few weeks ago :)

This is turning out so much better than I could have hoped. Picking a winner is going to be hard.
