Hello I was just looking for a coin my dad had given me a while back in our special coin box. I came across a sealed gold dime one is a 1979 with a mint mark and one is a 1975 gold dime with no mint mark. Is this the real deal and how do I find out if it is?!?!
You need to be more specific regarding the country of origin because there were no US gold coins minted in the 1970s nor has the dime denomination ever been minted in gold.
If these are US dimes, then they are simply gold plated, I have a pair of pennies like that. Just for looks, not really enough gold for a significant value impact.
I will have to get on my co puter I'm on my phone now but it's a US gold dime 1975 no S that is sealed. The 1979 is minted D and not seeming to be valuable at all the 1975 seems to have some interesting facts behind it.
I think I see the point of your confusion here. The 1975 No S dime is a completely different animal from what you have. The No S dime is a very rare proof coin(specially prepared collector coins sold in sets) that was accidentally minted without a mintmark, only two are known. It has the same composition as a normal dime, cupronickel cladding with a copper core, but proofs have mirror polished fields with frosted devices and look quite different from a coin meant for circulation. Circulating coins without a mintmark were minted at Philadelphia.
