This coin with larger pics can be found in the link below. Here are some close-ups of the die break on the obverse in the 3 o'clock position. The die break can be felt and it is raised (convex) not concave. The streak marks CANNOT be felt. The small, yellowish crude looks like some old glue. I tried acetone for a brief bath but it had no affect (effect?). What are your opinions, questions or comments. I may send this one in for a slab.

I'm thinking it's not a die error or it would be a listed top100, hot of hit list variety as other "Comet" varieties are. I'm thinking it's a planchet error.

Thanks Dave,

I was discussing this coin with a friend and we thought maybe an alloy mix error like the 'Lincoln Woodies.' If the raised line below the 'M' is not a die break, what else could it be?

To me, it does look like the line below the M is a die break. Hard to tell even from the larger pictures, what may have caused the issue to the left of the M, though. Could be a planchet error as already stated. Any sort of de-lamination issue from what you can tell?

It just occurred to me that the streak running through her hair may be the same issue with the other markings. I don't have the coin handy for close-ups of the center streak so I enlarged the image I had. Alloy mix error? Mike Diamond, where are you?

Nice coin - I cant help with the coin in question but you did mean 'effect'!

(Effect is a noun, affect is a verb)

Interesting. I'm thinking planchet/(de)lamination error. But what do I know, lol.

interesting coin there, perhaps a strike through error with crap being on the planchet while it moves through the die.. I would post it onto VAM WORLD to see what there opinion are..
They have seen many things similar to this...
there are only 2 possibilities here...1, the coin has these imprints with-in the die...so that would mean..
the impressions would be raised above the coins surface...
2/..some material came with the planchet as the coin was struck.. leaving an indentation/depression into the coins surface... either way its only a few thousandths
and very hard from the pictures to decide if its raised or
its a depression.. I don't see it as a break of any kind..
But I always say...Get other opinions.....never let your ideas be shut down by one opinion you have nothing to loose by posting them on VamWorld to see what they think...
