if they were to double the issue of this coin, it would of slow killed this coin, if they made say 30,000, it would have served only to put more butterflies in peoples hands, it most certainly would have kept the price right around issue price, and the only people who would have been unhappy would be the flippers. However what it would have done, is drive up the price of the first 2 coins, 3-4 times..As there would have been so many more people with the 3rd coin, who would now be going after the first 2 coins, there would not be enough of the first 2 to go around for all the new collectors. And as far as being priced to high to buy, it is like anything else in life, weather it be sports cards or cars or homes, or anything else, you should only be buying that which you can afford.. just my opinion only..

So far my review is not on RCM site. But the others reviews so far, that I read about the "Venetian Glass Butterly" on RCM, is no different than mine. Please read review "By Robert, from Waterloo". It is twice as long as mine. Maybe the reason why I'm not happy with the Mint is because I stay up late on Monday night, hoping new releases would come at 12:00am Tuesday morning. New releases never came out & I went to bed around 12:30. I woke at 6:30 to go to work, check RCM, still no new releases. Then I check at 9:00, 12:00, and also at 2:00 o'clock. Still nothing. So when I came home from work at 5:30 in the evening and check the RCM site, I was surprise to see new releases, and of course I had sad face, when I saw butterfly sold out.

How can I see the review? Which page should I go?
I do not even see the butterfly coin on Mint website.

Upping the mintage wouldn't have killed the coin. It would have served its purpose by going into the hands of people that appreciate it for what it is, not what it's worth. There are many people who may have been able to afford it at issue price but not at double to triple the price.

Here's some of the "Review by Robert from Waterloo".
UNFORTUNATELY this leads me to writting this. After reading many other reviews, I just had to write what I feel also. AND maybe the Mint will do something a little differently next year ! If memory serves me correctly the Lady Bug coin had no limit - then the Bumblebee had a limit of 3 and now the Butterfly a limit of 2. I could be wrong. But I never even got 1 of the first two releases. I have been waiting a long year for the next release and now I missed out again. I have been a Master Club Member for 15 to at least 20 years if not more and I personally never received any notice of this coins release. I was on line everyday AND OF COURSE THE ONLY DAY I do not check - it appears. I personally feel that the Mint should look heavily into this situation because there are so many other people who feel the same - that dealears are snatching up their product and doubling up the prices !! Having said this I would recommend this coin and any coin to a family or friend like I have always done in the past. BUT then what do I tell them when the coin is finally available to them-since they do not have advance notice and they discover before their eyes, the dreadful words 'AWAITING STOCK' ?

Well I do not think those reviews should be put on the RCM website. They do not review the coin, rather it reviews the Mint.

@ Tristen1230 I would much rather see the merits--or lack thereof--in a review. Not saying the "reviewer" doesn't have some valid criticisms of the Mint, but it should be about the coin! Rob

For the record, the ladybug did have a strict limit. The only reason this hobby is becoming more popular, is the chance your coin might double in value overnight. Where were all you people when the mint was pumping out unlimited mintages. I was collecting and buying coins back then, but where were you people, you had no interest because the value wasn't there. I personally wish the bee and butterfly had 5,000 mintage, to match my ladybugs.

I think these reviews on RCM site are perfect example how much people like this coin and would like to have one. I can leave this review on RCM website for "Venetian Glass Butterfly". "Another Perfect Example of the Quality & very Unique design that the RCM is capable of. Great & Excellent job RC Mint, for craftsmanship that goes into our Canadian coins. A joy to collect. A wonderful piece of ART. Exquisite and beautiful butterfly and the colors are rich and stunning. Possibly the finest & brilliant product up to date! A great addition to any Canadian collection! I just love it. Thank You!! Thank You!! Thank You!! P.S. Unfortunately this coin was sold out & I can't buy it. I will not own this coin & I can't really appreciate the beauty of this coin.

@sergio sriblo - I agree that people would love this coin and shows they do but if they love the coin why do they give it 1 star. Why do they talk about the mints problem. If they like the coin they should say it is beautiful but I did not get it sadly, give it 5 stars or 4 stars and recommend it to a friend. But you got some people who keep going on about the mints problem. Also some do not recommend it to a friend just because they missed out.

Re: Bigger mintages in the past
They had a lot fewer different coins too. And they did sell.
Toronto 150 (1984): 571,563 proof + 133,563 BU.
What a flop? I've heard these were very successful around the world.
The April dollar is 10000 mintage, and is totally off the radar. But THAT is the continuation of the legacy. Not a glass bug glued to a painted coin.

This review just makes me laugh, no offence to the OP, but the review section of a product page is for reveiws of the coin.
I.e. I love the coin it looks awesome...or This coin looks ugly, would never buy it.
It's not a "Public Complaint Box". If I was the mint I personally would delete and prohibit these reviews immediately.
If you have a complaint, contact the mint, posting rants on a product review page for "service" is just like a 2 year old whining about candy they couldn't get.
As for those posters who say they should increase or make the mintage unlimited....are you joking?
20,000 mintage for a $150 product? That's a 3 million dollar market cap.
20,000 mintage for those bird coins at $30 = $600,000 (or 20%) and they can't hold their value on the secondary markets,in fact look at the grosbeak selling at as low as half that mintage.
Heck lets leave the birds, look at the 2nd glow in the dark dino, 30,000 mintage at $30, $900,000 or 30% of 20k Mintage for the glass coins, and that coin is selling for well below issue price. And that was ONE OF THE MOST ANTICIPATED COINS OF THE YEAR.
If there's not enough demand for a really popular $30 coin, what makes you think the coins will have any value.
I thought the whole purpose of collecting things was to be one of the exclusive holders of a "RARE COIN", not have something the neighbours and their dogs can get.
At one point you see people complain "Oh I'm not buying from this mint, they're coins can't hold any value", and then you see the same people complaining "Oh they should release more, I'm not paying those inflated prices".
Seems to me that you only want the value to rise if you have it, and hate when it rises of you can't get it.
Choose a side.

It's not just the coin, it's also the whole process. Design of the coin, availability of the coin, shipping & receiving. How many people complaint last year on RCM, site that they had to wait up to six months to received the coins that they bought. Tomorrow Sunday evening I will be buying some coins from Perth Mint in Australia. Next Friday I will have those coins in my hand.

I am totally against increasing the mintage of the glass bug coins. Someone suggested increasing them to 30,000. Why stop there, make it 100,000. Its like the card collecting boom in the early 1990's. The card companies saw an opportunity to make money and started printing them in the millions. Guess what happened, the market collapse. Or take stamp collecting, each stamp is printed in the millions. Stamps printed since the the 1950's are only good for postage. Absolutely no value to them except for error stamps. As for coins, do we want to go the US route where the coin are virtually worthless except for errors and varieties. Millions of US coins are made each year. How can there be value when there are thousands to millions of them. As for Canadian coins, enjoying the hobby and making some money off them are not mutally exclusive. You use the money you made from coins to buy other coins you want. It is simple as that You won't get rich by selling a few of the butterfly coins. What is a couple hundred dollars compared to the greater scheme in life. Its peanuts compared to buying a home in Vancouver where the average price is one million bucks. Those who complain are full of sour grapes. Just because one coin sold out, does not mean your hobby is destroyed. If you love coins so much, buy other coins. 99% of them are not sold out in one hour. Why change the Mint policy over one coin.

^I don't see anywhere in the review you posted in the OP that mentions the design of the coin. In fact, you wouldn't, or at least shouldn't be complaining about the design if you're dying to get the coin haha.
Availability, shipping, etc. are all "Customer Service" issues, not product issues.
The reviews are meant for product compliments and complaints, I think its stupid that the mint even allows people who don't own the coin to write a review, especially when the coins haven't started shipping, or even released to general public haha.
Again you can buy Perth products, and they have great customer service, but you still see people complain about how Perth products decline in value.
