If you want to use a spreadsheet, but haven't got Excel, you can use Open Office or Google's free online Docs program. You can import an Excel sheet into either one too.

The one downside I see with CoinManage is it's lack of foreign coins. I collect world coins by type, and I'd have to enter each and every coin one-by-one. I'd be less concerned with prices (I can look them up elsewhere), but I'd love to be able to print reports of coins still needed, etc. Any suggestions other than excel? (I'd still have to input all the data into excel anyway and it doesn't allow for printing reports).

From where does Coin Manage pull there coin values? It says its up-to-date coin values. Also Can we add coins from other countries if we want to? Like Australia?

I've seen Exact Change before, and it looks great! I just can't justify spending $100 for software to catalog a collection that is probably only worth 2 or 3 times that. (Although yesterday's haul may change that!) Has anybody here ever used Exact Change?

Shatsi,
I am not sure where he gets his values from. Yes you can add coins from other countries to Coin Manager.
I would only caution you about changing the coins they have already in the database. I deleted several coins and moved coins from one category to another. Then I did there update and it re-added the coins that I deleted. So all the time I spent getting the database the way that I wanted it was lost.

Topher,
I'll let you know how Exact Change is in a couple of weeks. I am getting it as a birthday gift.

I'm happy using "Coin Database". Has everything you need.

I use Quicken and treat the coins like individual investment assets. It's a bit of work but then it's easy to report against (for the most part) and tracking the "true" value is relatively simple (I use an amount below Bid).

Quicken...now that is a very creative way to use another software. Makes sense when you step back and look at from an investment perspective as it is just another element of a portolio like bonds. Neat idea Prethren .

As I've pointed out to many people, Excel has some pretty good things about it that can't be beat. The main thing is the universalness of it. What I mean is possibly millions and millions of computers have Excel on them. If you buy or download a program of any kind, remember that you must always or usually must have that program available. If it can not be used on other computers, you may have entered lots of info that is not recoverable in case of a computer failure. With Excel you can put all info on disk, CD, floppy, etc. and take it anywhere. Many people do not want stange programs put on their machines so if you are somewhere and want to check out something about your inventory, to bad. With Excel you could just about take your inventory to other countries and still be able to look things up. Another nice thing about excel is there are tons of books on the subject, other people can help you with any problems, schools have classes on that program.

ClearwaterCoins, Any updates on the software? Does it let you create your own set? Such as a 7070 type set?

As I pointed out Excel is available just about everywhere. I checked some of the local libraries and they all have Excel on their computers. I know for sure many hospitals have Excel on the computers. If you ever need assistance with Excel just about any web site there are people that can help regardless of what type of web site.

What I don't like Excel as an inventory is that I can't insert pictures next to each item in the list.
