Well done Ski! A beautiful hard to find rendering of Ardashir I,founder and patriarch of the Sassanid Empire. This rare billon (base silver) tetradrachm is made in the late Parthian style. He ushered in a new age for Persia. The Sassanid Empire would last until the mid 7th century AD after a series of military defeats, falling victim to the Barbarian campaigns in the north east and the Arab Conquest in the west. Nice coin, Sear doesn't list any of these. I found a reference to this coin in Wayne Sayles book on Non classical cultures.
