I just picked this one up from a very reputable dealer. The details on the obverse and reverse look correct, and the edging details look authentic in that there are two overlaps exactly 180 degrees across from one another. However, according to my Krause, this type of coin is suppose to weigh about 13.5 grams, yet mine seems to weigh 13.05. Is it possible that this could be due to wear, or might it be that my particular coin was struck a bit underweight? Thanks!

I won't be able to give you a definite answer, but I really like that coin

Looks fine... The fours often seem to lose a lot of weight, being a wide-diameter coin on a fairly thin planchet (relative to the 8R) - lots of surface area to wear down. That IS however, a tad bit lower than I would expect for that piece.
No odd observations vs. the prescribed weights immediately jump to mind for the Potosi pieces of these years.

realeswatcher- Thanks! I must say that aside from the slightly low weight nothing about this coin seems to raise any red flags.

These years of Potosi 4R can definitely be found... the issue is at what price for what grade.

realeswatcher- True, they are out there, but I just haven't run into many at shows and shops. I actually just got this one for $30.

Looks fine to me and the weight is not as much of an issue as with 8Rs or the coins of Mexico. The 4R was NOT a trade coin and in Bolivia they were often a few points light. The 8Rs were much closer to standard but early mint reports do show up to 2-3 % short.
