Very pricey but I see a very very nice coin (well, 2) in this lot.

The middle one is cool enough but next to that is a Constantius II issued by Vetranio - the legend, HOC SIGNO VICTOR ERIS refers to the vision constantine the great had before the battle of Milvian Bridge - 'By this Sign, you shall conquer' - and he did. A rare coin type and this is in excellent condition - pity its not the Vetranio type or the Constantius Gallus version.

Vetranio was a general when Magnentius' revolt happened. Constantia asked him to declare himself Caesar - and he did. For the good of his Emperor Constantius II, he marched against opposing forces in his absence and held them back whilst Constantius returned from the Persian front. When the two armies met, Vetranio abdicated and lived the rest of his life well, dying of natural causes.

This coin is a symbol of his loyalty.

I bit the bullet and bought it. I figured since I'm new to this I might as well get something interesting. Ill let everyone know how they clean up. It will be a great learning tool for identification for me.

Excellent lot to own - no profit in it, but definitely nice coins and some rare stuff. I recommend you practice cleaning on the common ones and leave the nice ones (HOC SIGNO VICTOR ERIS and the temple one) for when you are confident in your abilities. They are high calibre stuff (especially HOC SIGNO) and you want to be sure you dont damage them.

do you know how to clean coins properly?

That is a nice lot. I especially like the Roman Provincial. A nice long soak in olive oil or distilled water along with using a soft brush and these coins should clean up nicely.
