Imasnore Valued Member Canada 360 Posts	Posted 05/02/2013 10:31 pm I have been searching this coin under Ottoman or Turkish Empire but there were so many countries over a period of time, I end up guessing. Is there a member whom 'specializes' in this era or empire? This coin appears to be silver about 35.5 mm and I have attached jpegs of sides and edges. Report this Post to the Staff

The word at the bottom of the second pic, just above the date "1187", is the mint-name, "Qustantiniyah" - Constantinople. AD 1187 is the accession date of sultan Abdulhamid I (AD 1773/4). The regnal date "4" is on the other side, at about the 8 o'clock position. The actual year of mintage is therefore AH 1190, or AD 1776. At 36 mm, this coin is a 1 zolota. NGC database page.
