Since February I've been spending my steel and zinc pennies. I have no more pennies at all!, except of course the copper ones I've been saving.

Anyone else have similar experiences? 90% of places I go to don't even consider giving back the 0.01 of a dollar back to me.

I got around $260 in pennies and I mean of all years (1970-2011). no stores really seem to have them anymore and if they do, then they don't know what to do with them. Of all the pennies iv got in the last decade, they will all be spent on a beautiful 1858 penny when I take them all to the bank. Also in your copper pennies, if there`s any George V ones in there it would be a good idea to separate them.

LOL!
It's ok, Sassafrass!
Welcome to CCF.

I have about a half box of 2012's stashed away.
Have about a box of '96 and earlier.
And have recently developed an obsession for Canadian large cents. Working on my second hundred of those babies

Edit to add: ...

And metal detecting in the local parks keeps pennies in my pocket to use at the local retailers!

Don't be embarrassed. Seasoned members do that with great frequency. You caught on real fast. Welcome to CCF! :)

In my home city there's an old car that's completely covered in copper pennies. I wonder if it's still around or they must've moved because I haven't seen the car on its usual street in years now.

Edit: I actually only have 18 pennies left. Gotta see where I can spend them.

Lots of stores I have been to don't round down or up and give me pennies. For the first time yesterday someone did not give me pennies though even though they did not round down or up.

I haven't received a penny in change in almost 2 months now. I do have, however, a rather nice stash that I'm slowly working my way through looking for errors and varieties.

at work we have been stashing pennies since we opened that location 16 years ago. bags, jars, tins and tubs all tucked away amongst the antiques and oddities that we've found while demolishing buildings. if I had to guess maybe 10+ icecream pails worth. I am going to wait a few more years and then start handing them out in change or to kids too young to remember the end of the penny.

I have a fair bit hoarded for copper content, as well as 1 from each date to put together 40 albums that I sell on ebay. As for what is still being handed out.... There are just a few places that still hand out pennies in change.

They all vary. Most coins are in the fine grade area...some better some less. When I was roll hunting, I always tried my best to pick out the best I could find. I don't include any bent, holed, corroded or verdi covered coins. Bad for business and more importantly, my reputation and self respect. But if the date is clearly readable and not overly worn and beat up....I will include it. Always pick out the best that I have left and make the album as an order is placed. Its just nice to try and preserve Canadian history before its all melted away. Like I said, at this point I have enough to make another 40 albums. The funny thing is, its the newer dates that I lack to make more....lol go figure.
