Thanks for the reminder guys. My wife is in Canada right now and I just texted her to bring back a couple boxes of canadian cents if she can find any banks with any left.

Good luck with that....I will be so jelous if she gets one. I have only heard of the odd story of someone being able to get one. And those tend to be by people who have long standing relationships with the bank and its tellers. I miss the penny already.

I have the opportunity down here to buy $50 face value in unsearched Canadian pennies for fifty bucks. Can't decide whether that's a good deal or not. Problems from my view: too much mixed metal included; too little knowledge of worthwhile varieties; too little storage space; too many unsearched cents sitting here already. And too expen$ive to mail small ebay lots to Canada.

No need to be jealous. She's back and when I asked her about this request she says she never saw the text until after crossing back over the border. Oh well.

I try to have 8-10 in the console in the car, so I can give exact change whenever Tims or Mcdonalds tries to round up. It's just fun having it both ways. I see no reason to keep post 1996 pennies, and TBH, I don't expect copper price to raise enough to make hoarding copper pennies worth it in any of our lifetimes, so I am not actively saving.
To those that are, have at it, and godspeed.

I was surprised when the cashier at my local Walmart gave me a penny in change a couple of weeks ago. I know many people like to bash them, but I've found over the last few months that if they owe me a penny or two in change, they give it to me, but if I owed them, they forgive it. In both cases, to my benefit. Of course, this won't last indefinitely, as there is obviously a dwindling supply. I live in Winnipeg, and don't know if this is the same across the country, or even if all Winnipeg WalMarts are doing this. Rob

A few stores in my area still give the exact change .Not a single bank will give them out anymore.I still have about 75,000 sorted by dates.

I only have a few rolls of post 1996 cents and a small hoard of copper cents. Only started saving pennies around Christmas so I haven't had much time to do this

Okay fellow coiners, what would you guys say is ENOUGH pennies? I have maybe 1/2 a red toolbox full of copper pennies for my own purposes. If I ever needed to buy bronze I wouldn't have to buy any. ;)
