1920 Half Penny Question - Coin Community Forum

SÃ©bastien New Member Canada 41 Posts	Posted 05/12/2013 7:07 pm Hi, I recently found in a bag of mixed coins that I've had for years a half penny that seems weird to me. On all the pictures that I've seen of this coins on the internet, the coin look like it is made of copper, but mine look like it's made of something else. It is very shinny and non-magnetic. Is it normal? Is my coin special? Was there different composition for that years? Report this Post to the Staff

1967Canadapenny Pillar of the Community United States 965 Posts	Posted 05/12/2013 8:44 pm SÃ©bastien, the coin appears to have been harshly cleaned at some point or another, I can't tell if it's been plated with silver or platinum, but if it has it certainly doesn't add any value to the coin. Personally, I think that the color you are seeing is the un-natural sheen of a coin that's been polished absurdly. But due to the hole, it might have been plated and used as a necklace or other jewelry. Either way, I wouldn't think it would fetch more than a dollar. Hope it helps Report this Post to the Staff
