Quote: Medieval, this is about the best we can do at the moment. Understood, and thanks for chasing up the link to BMC. But let me raise another silly (?) idea: What about creating a subsection for References and Identification. That subsection could be headed with a list of stickies (too many for the regular forum) for references like: 1. Roman Coinage 2. Greek and Greek Imperial Coinage 3. Celtic, Phoenician/Zeugitanian, Jewish, Nabataesan etc 4. Byzantine 5. Medieval Europe 6. Islamic 7. Indian (non Islamic) 8. Chinese, Japan, Korea and South East Asia 9. Other, ie everything not covered elsewhere (eg Axum, Cilician Armenia) Ideally same rule would apply as in trading forum (if I understand it right), ie every poster would be able to update his/her post indefinitely so that the list would stay quite concise. Postscript: To not waste this post, here a reference to coinage from the City of Trier (the ancient Treveri): http://www.numismatas.com/Forum/Pdf...%20Trier.pdf

I not opposed to it but It think that it would be a lot of work to maintain for the mods. I think we have to limit ourselves to this sticky subsection.

For those of you interested in coins of the Mongol empire. I found this link to a book titled "The coins of the Mongol Empire" The only draw back is that you have to read it on line it can't be downloaded. http://michael-engel.io.ua/album522526_0

Again not sure if this was already posted/listed -> http://www.wikimoneda.com/catalogue.phpMore or less a showcase, but it overs quite a wide range of coins, especially French Feudal. It's in French but that should not be a real problem when trying to confirm a coin, more details are given if one clicks 'Fiche' (in worst case use google translate for the more detailed description).

Collecting Medieval Coins: a Beginner's Guide - Paul A Torongo (2013) ISBN:149 217 2022 £32.38 on Amazon see http://www.amazon.com/Collecting-Me...p/1492172022I've collected milled coins for many years, and have only recently started dabbling in Medieval stuff - this book has tones of information for a beginner like me, lots of illustrations and tutorials on reading legends - my only criticism is that there is no index to the coins illustrated as examples,
