There is no point to be a MC member if the the limit is one coin because the new policy guarantees the coin will be still available when sales are open to the public.
The only benefit is free shipping but I could get around that by buying locally.

I gotta say, as a new coin collector I like the limits on certain coins. I understand how flippers don't like it, but as I am not an MC member yet, it will be nice to actually have a chance to buy the hot new coins when they are released. Would have been nice to place an order from the Mint for one of the Glass Butterfly's, but luckily CDNcoin is an amazing company and sold some for issue price to us unlucky folk with no MC status :)

Like CC-Ottawa said...there's other sources to get the product. I.e. I'm a dealer so I was able to get far more than the "limits"

One per household is silly! Not only for the collector but also for the average Joe, who might have 2-3 kids to buy for. And then there are the grandkids. So, if only one coin is allowed, which child will get it? Joe will pass, because he can't just give one child one coin and not the other.
Perhaps 1-2 per household for the higher end low mintage coins is acceptable. But for a $20/$20 or higher mintage lower end, average coins too? - complete turn off!

Quote: The following are the dates:
Elite MC Presale - Tuesday 6/25
Regular MC - Wednesday 6/26
Others - Tuesday 7/2
The new $20 for $20 is pat of this release.
The Limit of 1 Coin per household will ow be a regular feature unless your are a most favored MC member. The next 20 for 20's are scheduled for September 2013 and November 2013. There is only suppose to be four this year. Unless their advertising is wrong...

I doubt the limit of 1 will apply for the 20$x20$.

Allowing a limit of one is great for the hobby, more coins in more people's hands. Less frustration for the average collector, and the Mint will still sell out coins destined to sell out. Flippers have many options in obtaining coins at cost, it'll just be more work. The only people who should be upset are Mint reps.

Reps work on commission, so yes, they are the ones who will suffer the most.
But I disagree with flippers having many options at getting coins at cost, the only one besides the Mint is CP. The rest like Gatewest Coins jackup the price of coins overnight.

For super hot coins yes. Most coins are released at cost and then go up incrementally as a coin sells out. Most recent sold out coins at the mint are still reasonable at the big guys (10-15 dollar markups). Even the 5oz queen which now commands a hefty premium was at cost for weeks. Flippers with insight still have the option of Canada Post outlets, online, CP philatelic, dealers, something they do anyway.... Plus, there will be more coins at these locations because of imposed limits by the mint. Like I said, flippers will still be able to get coins, it'll just be more work.

The one item per person rule may generate more sales but it does not guarantee more product will be sold. Most likely they had to implement this rule because they have reduced the amount of product they will sell so that CP and dealers get more product. Look at all the products that have the limit of one restriction, most are limited to under 10,000 coins. There simply is not enough product to go around. Canada Post has over 6,600 Post Offices across the country. If each outlet got one coin the whole mintage gets eaten up very quickly leaving very little for dealers let alone flippers or regular customers. I would bet there will be less than 1,500 coins of the Silver allegory or the maple leaf coins sold online. Even with a limit of 1 they will sell out fast.

Quote: Like I said, flippers will still be able to get coins, it'll just be more work. @Dr Butcher Yes, but not worth the effort any more. With increased ebay fees and a huge glut of product only a very few coils will even be worth the effort. Effective this year the Mint will kill off the flippers. Only flippers with deep pockets and reps will survive. If that is good or bad for the hobby is yet to be seen. I think it will be good for true collectors in the long run.

I'm not sure that flippers are that bad for dealers. I mean, flippers help the coins to sell out fast. That way, when dealers start selling their stuff, they can already higher their price. Also, I see some dealers to hold their stuff until a specific coin gets sold out. I've seen this with the 20 for 20 last year. And dealers are not stupid: they look at the ebay market to set their price. They use this to higher their price faster. In fact, in the current situation, the only one loosing is the customer that is not a MC member looking for a coin that sell out before public release. Note: Pardon my English

Limit of 1 is nonsense. I'm not a flipper, not even a seller. At each release I buy 3 x 20for20 for me and my roommates, they gonna hate me if RCM lower the limit to 1 per household.

It's all just marketing. Most of their coins have only 10,000 or less minted and they don't sell out. So they tell people that they can only have one; that way they think they want more. That will work for a little while, but soon they'll have to come up with another marketing gimmick.

Oh, didn't that happen with the butterfly coin. The flippers bought everything and left non for non MC members. People went nuts buying them in the after market. My feeling is that this decision won't last and we won't see these limits next month. If they keep it up they will only end up shooting themselves in the foot. The words "intelligent" and "Mint Management" have never been used in the same sentence before. Its a fact.
