A couple weeks back a teller at my local bank said they had $800 in dollar coins and asked if I wanted them. I wasn't interested in tying up that much money at the time but I'm sure I could have filled in a hole or two with that many. You might want to check out this link to see where you could find some... https://goccf.com/t/115851

Yes, actually my credit union has $1000 of these dollar coins, not 1000 rolls, as I originally stated. I guess I got happy typing. :-)

Gas stations. Ask when you go in and buy something, at the register, if they have any dollar coins. All the ones around here have tons in their drawer.

Liz, just go to your local bank and ask if they have any dollar coins. Often they will have a few kicking around in their cash drawers and will be happy to sell them to you for $1.00 each. If you have an account there or if you know some of the tellers tell them you would like to have dollar coins and they may just set them aside for you.
I stopped by a local TD bank a few weeks ago and saw they have two Ikes. They asked if I wanted them when they saw that I was interested.
Anyway, good luck and let us know how you do.

All I want to do is find one Ike, just one Ike, in a bank- just for the experience. I haven't been able to snag a single Ike for face value.

I have a couple tellers at local banks and my credit union watching for coins for me. One called me this week and told me to stop by. She had a tub of Kennedy halves and Ikes that had been turned in by someone. She also came across a Series 1953 $2 US Note. This is the same teller that last fall came up with a Morgan dollar and several dozen Ikes. While none of the Ikes were anything special I like and keep them. I did get a 40% Kennedy once from her. I drop a Starbucks card for my teller friends once in a while, they appreciate it and they remember to call me when something nice comes along.

I was at my local bank last week and things were slow there. The teller is about 34, I ask her if they had any IKEs, she said whats that. I told her then ask if she had any Susan B's. She said whats that, and I told her. She then said to me, I have this one dollar gold coin. I played dumb and ask whats that. She pulls it from her drawer and showed me a gold president dollar. She ask if I wanted it and I thanked her and left. A 34 year old bank teller, been telling 9 years.LOL

I haven't seen any in the wild where I live. I asked for some at my bank and the teller seemed reluctant to even give them to me-- almost like they didn't want them in circulation again. They only had 20 or so and those looked like they'd been around the block a few thousand times. The teller made a comment about merchants not liking dollar and half dollar coins. I asked if I could order some and was told, resoundingly, NO.

Just bring an ike with you. Show the ike so they know. That's what I would do.

I went to a bank today at the mall and got a few dollar coins. I really like the way they look.

I get dollar coins all the time. The change machine in the cafeteria at work gives them out when you put a 5 dollar bill in it. It gives mostly president dollars, but I have gotten Sac dollars, Native American dollars, and SBA dollars from it. Some of the SBA's are pretty nice. I usually keep the nice ones. I like the SBA's better than all the other small dollars.

Apparently you've all had more luck with Ikes than I have with voyageurs. I ask everywhere, and only got a lead once - a teller said that they rarely got tubs of nickel dollars, but nothing older than 1950. I left my phone number (they were looking at the dates - good sign!), but nothing yet.
I asked my dad if nickel dollars were ever even used in the 70s and 80s. He didn't remember seeing any - kind of a bad sign (I don't think Ikes circulated much either)...

Ive never gotten any of the old dollars myself either but did find that having an example cut out the disappointment of being told yes we have them and then the golden dollars are brought out.
It seems to me if you live in a rural area you have a better chance of them having things like that
