Indeed, if I had this coin I would consider selling it and paying off my house.

I found the coin on Sixbid.com. Now I'm browsing upcoming auctions. Danger Will Robinson!

There are some affordable coins which are worth keeping an eye on...

Next for GTG, from a Roman Imperial. I was going to save it for GTE but the reverse is interesting too. I had not stumbled upon this deity before.

...It's a major Syrian goddess, from a Roman provincial coin of a hard-to-find "12 Caesars" emperor...

Maybe Antioch, there are few "Syrian" gods. Antioch is usually pictured as a robes seated figure.

Yes! Atargatis :) That was a hard one.

From wikipedia:

Quote:
Atargatis /e™Ëˆte're¡e™te¨s/ or Ataratheh (/e™Ëˆtære™Î¸e™/; Aramaic: ‘Atar‘atheh or Tar‘atheh‎) was a Syrian deity, the chief goddess of northern Syria[1] (Michael Rostovtzeff called her "the great mistress of the North Syrian lands"),[2] commonly known to the ancient Greeks by the name Aphrodite Derceto and to the Romans as Dea Syriae ("Goddess of Syria"), occasionally rendered in one word Deasura. Primarily she was a goddess of fertility, but, as the baalat ("mistress") of her city and people, she was also responsible for their protection and well-being. Her chief sanctuary was at Hierapolis, modern Manbij,[4] northeast of Aleppo, Syria. She is often now popularly described as the mermaid-goddess, from her fish-bodied appearance at Ashkelon and in Diodorus Siculus â€" a widely accessible source â€" but which is by no means her universal appearance.[5]
Her consort is usually Hadad. As Ataratheh, doves and fish were considered sacred by her, doves as an emblem of the Love-Goddess, and fish as symbolic of the fertility and life of the waters.[6] According to a third-century Syriac source, "In Syria and in Urhâi [Edessa] the men used to castrate themselves in honor of Taratha. But when King Abgar became a believer, he commanded that anyone who emasculated himself should have a hand cut off. And from that day to the present no one in Urhâi emasculates himself anymore."[7]

The coin is Otho, from Cicilia. Found on acsearch
