Just acquired the following 1882 Liberty Seated Half and would appreciate all opinions as to grade/condition. What may appear as hairlines (especially on the obverse) are probably polishing lines. The reverse has a strong PL surface but I don't think this one is a proof because the edges are MS-ish instead of the sharp proof characteristic. Help!!

very nice coin. I am new to the whole Coin World but in my opinion that seems to be an MS level Myabe 62/63. I would love to hear the pros opinion

New to this series, but I would guess Au 55 with an old cleaning? Nice Half! I too await the pros opinions.

it's either a weak strike on some of the high points like her clasp, the stars and the eagles lower leg or just slightly even wear. I'll stab at the latter and say she's awesome and an AU58.
are those wisps of frost or just the lighting washing out a bit?

@dsfreeworld.... on the obverse it's lighting and on the reverse it's luster around the motto.

I would say AU55 (details - cleaning); wear on the tips of the eagles wings & the arms and legs of LIBERTY. Unless the lighting is wrong on the image, it looks too "white" to me.

if it was cleaned, it was a long time ago or it could have been a quick dip. Its though to say with the pics. You know better in-hand than we can tell Paleo. I'm sticking with a higher AU, a few market acceptable surface issues and whole lotta awesomeness for this 131 year old beauty.
nice pick up

this is really beautiful coin. I'm in at AU58. not sure if it was cleaned. IMO I dont think so, but the experts in these would no better.

It is obvious the surfaces are not original (i.e. cleaned). Whether or not it is judged market-acceptable is another matter altogether. It does have AU+ detail and appears to have some mint luster remaining. I'd guess AU55 if it graded problem-free.

Quote: It is obvious the surfaces are not original (i.e. cleaned). Keep in mind, paleoguy, if those lines were from die polishing you'd expect them at their thickest where they meet the devices. On yours - noticeable best on the reverse - they stoop short of the devices. Perhaps not a deliberate action, but definitely postmint hairlines.

I would also say AU with cleaning at some time. Tough date and low mintage she would be welcome in my collection.

Wow. This issue is pricey. Then again, with the lowest mintage in the series I guess you should expect that.

I'll say AU 55, improperly cleaned. Doesn't stop it from being easy on the eyes. Nice looking half.
