Has anyone recently been having issues buying and selling coins on ebay? First I bought a lot of Barber dimes that left a sorting facility then disappeared. I have been getting an email from someone stating they never received this 1898 G Barber quarter that I didn't including tracking since I only charged $7.50 for it and thought additional shipping might cause it to be to high. I find the emails a little fishy since their writing is all in lower case, even their name and consist of short sentences "i still haven't received my coin". I then sent a Shield nickel in a 6X9 envelope that fits the ebay shipping label and was told by the buyer that the post office charged them $3.95 shipping for their coin. Anyone else having issues? I ended all my sales until I figure out what is going on. I know selling without tracking on ebay is a bad idea even if the added cost makes the coin too high like if you are selling a $5 coin.

I haven't had a greater amount of recent issues than in the past, but USPS shipping has always been poor. I did have a package that was in the mail for over 2 weeks after visiting several different states. I also had an insured package for which the tracking shows it was delivered to a random (incorrect) address in Georgia. The actual recipient, in Texas mind you, got the coin without any USPS notice. I had a package which was went to me update as delivered without me receiving it. It showed up the next day. A few months ago, I had a package sent to me with signature confirmation, late and just left at the door on the ground in the weather. I could go on and on.
It's always been bad. I think you're just getting a string of bad luck.
I am also frequently surprised by some individuals who have an utter inability to write in a coherent manner, although it is clear English is their primary language.

I know there is a possibility that the buyer actually received the Barber quarter he bought from me but experienced buyer's remorse. Instead of paying the charges to return it,they simply said they didn't get it. They could have not gotten it knowing the post office. I had no choice but to issue the refund. I spoke to an ebay support rep about it. They were like "you don't want a strike against your account" and I replied "I don't care". I told her I think I should take a break from ebay since there way of shipping, with tracking, isn't even working. She said do what you think is best.

I've had issues recently with the USPS sorting facility at Detroit, Mi along with the one in Macon, Ga. It took two weeks to get the Michigan routed delivery and one and a half weeks for the Georgia. Ultimately all of the deliveries get there and in good shape, however we do get what we pay for, don't we? Good luck.

No problems on this end, except the merchandise not getting there soon enough! When I ship coins out that are postpaid, I have the option of how fast they get there; Parcel Post, First Class (usually) or Priority...but ALWAYS with Tracking/Delivery Confirmation, which is normally included at no additional charge if purchased on line.
Sometimes the coin catches a tail wind and gets there in two days, sometimes a week at the most.

I know what you mean Fatman, all the issues I have had have either been in MI or GA. Of course since I never had anyone claim they did not receive their coin before.

I had a coin that was supposed to be going from DC to the southern part of the WV VA boarder take the scenic route through New Jersey once. No clue why it did that but I hope it enjoyed the sight seeing

I never used tracking for low cost coins since it just didn't seem worth it to add $1.90 to a $7.50 cent coin. Now that someone claimed they didn't get the coin, which I still have doubts about this because I never had anyone not receive a coin from me. I think it might be best to simply do not list these coins on ebay. Many people list them in lots, problem is nobody wants to buy 20 coins to get one or two they need for their book. I look it at this way, if someone broke into my house and stole the coin, I will call the cops and if they were caught they would go to jail. If someone claims they didn't get the coin on ebay and they did, they accomplished the same thing, without breaking the law.

It costs me $1.69 to ship a single coin in a bubble mailer using the USPS feature on ebay. This includes tracking. I charge $2.50 for shipping single coins. The extra .81 goes to cover the bubble mailer, the postage label, packing slip, and the plastic baggie I put the coin in. I am not out any money at all, and do have buyers that will pay $2.50 on shipping for a .75 coin.

I am a low volume ebay seller and I pay the same $1.69 that includes tracking. I don't think they cut the cost on that any due to volume/top-rated-status. Their fees they evidently do though! I think the post office charges over $2 for the same thing that ebay charges $1.69 for, which makes no sense to me but I just use eBay-only so it is moot.

USPS recently redid their service so that if you go to the counter you can add tracking to anything for 90 cents, for whatever reason their automated machines havent been updated. For single low value coins it may be cheaper to throw a stamp on it and have them add the tracking in an envelope

The reason that your buyer had to pay postage due might be because USPS considers anything in a padded envelope as a package.

I paid the $1.69 1st class package postage through ebay. I didn't just add a stamp. When it got there, the envelope had postage due $3.93. I used a 6 X 9 envelope that was not padded. The pack of envelopes that were this size had the label "catalog envelope". Did they think it was a catalog? The other coin I shipped the same way got there no problem. It could be a regional thing, post office is looking for ways to get some more money? Should I not use 6 x 9 envelopes, padded or not? I have some that size that are padded and not padded. I am simply going to have to charge for tracking on all coins for now on. It certainly cheaper to throw a stamp on everything which gets passed on to the buyer making my coins even cheaper but that is no more. Those low cost coins get eaten away in fees anyhow on ebay.

some postal employees have it out for you. I remember being in line once, and the clerk spent two minutes passing an envelope back and forth through some sort of thickness gauge to see if it was oversize. The person mailing it finally said "What's the difference? I'll pay it just to get out of here."

Since this envelope was very thin, I bet they tried to charge it as a catalog or something. Maybe the post office has it out for me? Maybe because I have been calling about a package they lost? It was 5 Barber dime and one had AU details and was looking forward to getting them. That dime was worth more than the entire lot price. This is why UPS is so much better though, they fire employees like that who treat the customers badly. It is not so easy to fire postal employees.

Ill have to disagree that UPS fires bad employees, the worst employee by far that I've ever encountered from a shipping service is a UPS one who still works there. My guess is the post office deemed your envelope a package which basically everything not a letter is to them. Either that or just one of those weird things that happens from time to time with the massive amounts of mail they handle
