I've recently gotten this coin. My understanding it's Herod Agrippa, struck about 40 BCE. Obv. Tripod, ceremonial bowl above, Date Year 3. Rev. Military helmet, facing wreath featuring acanthus leaf around (?). That's my question: I checked in different sources and found that most of these Herod coins has on Obv. Canopy with fringes with legend around and Rev. Three ears of grain. Mine is different. I couldn't find the similar coin.
So, could somebody help me to identify if this very rear coin and and appox. value.

Thanks a lot for all help.

Hi,
This coin appears to be Herod the great and not Herod Agrippa. Herod the great ruled from about 37BCE to his death 4BCE. It is very difficult to tell what the reverse is because it is both worn and offstruck however it could be the military helmet reverse. I am afraid I dont know enough about his coins to say how rare or valuable it is.

It is a Herod the Great, 8 prutot piece. Unfortunately, the reverse is very off-center, severely reducing the value.

Completely unrelated, but made me wonder: what is the meaning of the sign just right of the tripod on the obverse?
I'm wondering because it's pretty much the same sign (or fairly close to it anyway) as I've seen on Arcadius coins, where it's some kind of "christogram" - however that would be a bit out of place on a coin minted before Christ

Yes I agree it is very interesting. Sort of looks a bit like an Egyptian ankh. The best information I can find is that its a monogram of the letters T and P but no explanation of what these letters mean.
