I'm going on an epic (not really) cross-country trip this summer. Does anyone know any good coin shops in these locales?

- Ottawa (of course I'm taking a Mint and NCM tour before it closes for renos - maybe they'll finally unglue that 1921 half...)
- Montreal & Quebec City (these two are iffy because of the language barrier, though)
- Halifax

as for Montreal, I go to Monnaie de Versaille in Place Versaille ( a shopping mall )but it depends what you are looking for. Last time I went to owner was talking about going to the Toronto coin show so I hope he speaks English.

As for Quebec, you can check out l'imaginaire. It as hobby store. they have coins, stamps, sports, figurine and much more. It's in a shopping mall called Laurier. They usually have higher price probably due to the high rent.: http://www.imaginaire.com/indexv2.j...eLangue=true

Citadel Coins in Halifax. If you go through Moncton, or even Saint John, there are a couple worth checking in on: Saint John - Loyalist Coins and Stamps and/or Fundy Coins; Moncton - The Coin Cabinet

The Coin Cabinet in Moncton, N.B. would be the finest in N.B.

My guess is that all eastern coin shops (ie: including Quebec) would be fairly well versed in English,..
.. and therefore should not be a problem for you.

Remember that they are collecting/dealing in Canadian coins.

Safe Travels ..!!

If you are driving, try Alliance Coins in Almonte (small town west of Ottawa). Very nice shop.

In Ottawa, there is also Ashbrook on Richmond Road. But again, it depends on what you are looking for.

Well Frontier Gold Mart in Belleville (in the middle of Toronto and Kingston) has a good selection of coins. He has a huge bin of small scents, silver. Just nice to look through and I got some really good deals on some of them.

I would for sure say you need to hit the Coin Cabinet in Moncton. I have been there and Brian is one of the best in Eastern Canada.

Can anyone clear up the difference between the coin cabinet and hub city coins?

They have different phone numbers, each has a website, but they have the same physical address on Main Street in Moncton.

Unless you were really quick, the National Currency Collection Museum closed on July 2nd, for a long-term renovation.

Hub City coins is the upstairs office, owned by Fraser Frizzell. At coin shows, Fraser's case is usually heaped with bullion...

It looks like Fraser set up an entire Canadian-based coin forum recently, but so far, looks unpopulated, perhaps it is a wide net cast out there for buying collections?

I joined for the heck of it...
