This is my first Phoenician coin. 44US shipped.

I think the art work of the engraver is pretty amazing.

On the obv. is a great portrait of Tyche. Her hair flows rhythmically into the nice curl of hair below, with a palm branch to the left.

The rev. is complex and has a lot to say. Poseidon is holding a trident in his left hand and something,(a wreath) in the other, sitting on a galley with Athena on the prow, said to be fighting. She's holding something, maybe a spear. If you look you can see her plumed helmet.

There is Punic script in the exergue. I don't know exactly what it says yet, but it's the date. I think the zigzag symbol on the coin between Poseidon and Athena is the Punic letter 'nun', signifying a serpent or whale.

I'm curious about the large object that makes up the exergue line and the two objects above and below it on the right. What are they?

Here they seem to be engraved in perspective.

Poseidon sitting on his jetski at the dock, rockin' out to his gramophone, waving at sexy Athena as she boats by.

Seriously though-- that's a pretty amazing coin and I look forward to hearing more about the devices.

Congratulation on a wonderful acquisition!

MUCH better than my example!
My coin is in such worn condition, that it is barely identifiable. My only compensation for my piece, is that it came out of a $4 junk box.

But there is a silver lining for me!
As a result of the picture posted here, I have now more fully attributed my coin.

At least, I can now confirm for myself that I got Sear 6002 right!

Thankyou.

The thing that looks like a gramophone may just be a reinforcing structure of the prow. At first I thought the ship's prow was facing left but now I think it's facing right. Example, from Incitatus Coins :

Very nice coin! Unfortunately here in Greece may not be held because of the archaeological law!

Thanks to all for the input.

I think these objects are some part of the galley.

I'll be searching galley photos when I get time.

Wow, thanks TIF

My budget constraints require that I find reasonably nice coins for not too much. Sometimes it works out pretty well.
