Second maple is a disappointment IMO. It simply doesn't look natural too me. The viewpoint is similar to the first; looking upward along the trunk, but the tree is barren and then there are two large coloured leaves at the forefront. It's like the last two leaves fell off and happened to fall directly in front of you as you lay on the ground looking up. Frankly, the leaves look like an after thought that were added to give the coin some colour.
I still ordered it for the set.
(Royal coins will be late next week)
BTW, what's with the specimen set that has an Arctic Exploration silver dollar at $100?!? That's a bizarre combination. A specimen silver dollar...that just has a strange note. Why would anyone want that when a proof and BU dollar already exist?
I do really like the caribou 1/2oz and 1 oz silver coins.

CC i totally agree with you. the leaves do like an after thought. this should have been the nicest one of the four coin set. very disappointing. the caribou coins are really nice as is the barn owl. not really impressed with this months selection

No choice for this one as it will be the only one available this year instead of the proof set.Hoping that it will come back as « proof silver dollar» next year.

The canopy coin I think will look better in hand than the picture is showing. They really couldn't make all the coins full of colourful leaves. They should have left a few small leaves on the tree though. Overall, I think it'll be a nice contrast to the first full colour coin.
The barn owl does look fantastic in the pic. I think the nicest by far in the series. There's actually landscape behind it which I don't think any of the others in the series have (I could be wrong and too lazy to check). Slight risk that it will look "cartoonish" but from the image, it looks great.
Caribou's all look great, six different Year of the Horse coins and my email is missing the Bald Eagle #2 (although I still ordered 2). My rep said these are in really limited supply again. Expect a sell out really quick into website MC release like last time.
For those that have seen it, what do you think about the Aboriginal Art coin? Mintage of 7,500 and my rep said it's first in what is supposed to be a 4 coin series but they could extend it. Not sure.......I can make out a goose with an arrow going though it and a squirrel but not much else.

I remember that the first Maple coin was ok looking on the site but when I got it in hand it was stunning. Maybe give this one a chance when it gets in hand.

When will "regular" MC members be able to purchase?

Thanks for the heads up about the eagle!
I presume the specimen set replaces the nickel proof set they did last year? Any idea of whether it's a regular silver dollar with the rest of the set specimen or an actual different finish to the dollar?

Should be up on the website sometime tomorrow afternoon or evening. Keep checking it as the coins will be posted up to 8 hours before you receive a notification email (based on my previous experience).

Yeah, my initial impression of the maple canopy is 'decent but not spectacular'. I think it's the way the branches are cut off (TRUNKated!?!? ) into a circular shape that puts me off a bit. I think it might be growing on me the more I go back and look at it though.

I think it will sell out but not in the initial MC release. But it is possible since there's no mention of limits this time around. Mintage is 17.5k.
