Quote: Any idea of whether it's a regular silver dollar with the rest of the set specimen or an actual different finish to the dollar? Based on the picture, it's a specimen finish. Of course, there has been a proof set already this year but it was the fine silver set with selectively gold plated SD. Last year there was also a regular proof set, with a proof silver dollar. Dunno why that was changed for 2013 but this new set should PO regular proof set collectors and regular specimen collectors alike. Nice work RCM. The barn owl at 17.5k won't sell out too quickly but the eagles might not making to general release. I assume Silvertowne has their hands on a lot of them.

No limit, I'm kinda surprised. I thought recent issues had a limit of three or do I remember wrong?

Coins they thought might be 'hot items' would have a limit of 1, 2 or 3 imposed on them. Others had no limits. Sometimes the limits would be changed dynamically during the release.

Like how the $100 Buffaloes started at a limit of 3 and then reduced to one.

Quote: There's actually landscape behind it which I don't think any of the others in the series have (I could be wrong and too lazy to check). I like that landscape too. The nuthatch had a background but none of the other 10 did. Oddly the mallards do but of course it's not officially part of the series.

My rep said that the mint only received a small allotment to sell of the Bald Eagle because it was indeed made for someone else.
He was promoting the Contemporary Art coin saying there's been a lot of interest FWIW. I know they push new series pretty hard to drum up interest most times though.

With no limits, every coin potential sellout. O Canada series coins - will come by subscription. Maple Canopy coin Contemporary Art coin Eagle series has a good potential to be very nice - now need to get the Platinum version to match the pair Nice items to look at. And not to forget - The Royal Baby set / coins...

Even with no limits it is unlikely any of the coins except for the bald eagle coin will sell out. None of the June or July coins sold out and I expect a similar pattern to follow. I certainly don't see a sellout of the Maple coin since it is so uninspiring compared to the first one. However, I do see a sell out for the Royal baby set, especially if it is well done. The big dealers will clamour all over it, grabbing a large portion of them, leaving only a small amount for the regular collector. I am certain there will be a limit placed on the Royal baby set.

Will agree. I've just seen the picture of Contemporary Art coin on the other forum. Interesting, but now it started to confuse me. Again? Another series?! And what with the "Traditions of Hunting" series? RCM, try to keep you current costumers continue to collect your coins, for most of us the budget has the limits. Too many issues each month.

Usually I don't receive any information about the new releases until after they show up on the website so I was surprised when I received the paper catalog in the mail today showing the August coins. It did say "Shop online at mint.ca starting July 30." I tried the quick find links they had below each coin while logged in as a MC member but it just came up as a blank screen. I guess I will wait until tomorrow. Eagle and Specimen set, O'Canada Subscriptions....not sold on the Autumn Maple Tree...don't like how the branches appear sheared off. I do like the Barn Owl but I don't collect the Birds series. I get the Specimen set for the $1 and $2. It is odd that this isn't proof like last year but maybe they think they will sell more since this is the only way to get the Specimen silver dollar. A lot of Arctic Exploration silver dollars!!

It's a pricey hobby only if you jump in everything the mint proposed... You always have the choice to put the plug off... By the way, it's only coins, not a thing you need for living... On my side, at the beginning of the year, I was like lot of people who want almost to collect everything... But since the last 3 months, I budget a maximum of 200$ per month, and I'm not less happy and I almost so disciplined that I can almost cut the budget to 150$, like one silver coin per month, but the one I love the most and it's working... Try it!

Quote: It's a pricey hobby only if you jump in everything the mint proposed Totally agree with this. I've recently goes back to buying some older coins (two loons for $83) or collection (Fine silver proof set of 1812 for $188) I like for cheaper price in secondary market. For this release, I'll just buy the 2 or 3 canopy and 1 owl.

Same here. I got a 1/25 oz gold star fish for $105 from a private seller last month.
I begin to love this "Tiny" gold coins series.
