Shhh. Stop all the talk about early specimens. You all could push prices up. :)
I'd like to see Trends take on early specimens as a periodic extra section. And a special Charlton section some year with some mintage estimates would be nice too.
Is there a good reference available?

I'm thinking that the specimens change hands so infrequently that it's hard to put an accurate price on them.
Some of the great catalogues from the past, like the Norweb Collection (Nov 1996) gave good ideas as to how rare some specimens were and a lot of extra info was also included in them.
These past catalogues should be considered important references ,..but today's estimates of pricing is something else that I would hope our resident experts could comment on for us here.
The recent population reports do help us with grades and #'s though.

I don't know. Seems ample evidence on here of grade polling to make the population reports very doubtful.

I could see "grade polling" affect the high end business strikes but the specimens just don't move around very much...IMHO.
Dealer opinions appreciated here.........

A question. I've seen 1949-1952 silver dollars in ICCS flips graded PL.
Were there PL coins in that era, or are these misattributed specimens?

@dialog_gvf - I've wondered that myself but never got around to asking the question. I've got 1951 25c ICCS PL64 Low Relief, 1951 $1 ICCS PL64, 1951 $1 PCGS PL66, and 1952 $1 ICCS PL65 NWL so it seems to be more than just a one off mistake.
