1944-D Mercury Dime Interesting Reverse

tsilcox22 New Member United States 3 Posts	Posted 07/20/2013 5:42 pm I am fairly new to collecting and recently found this dime. The reverse looks like the column is broken. It the breaks look very clean. Could this possibly be an error? I have attached photos. Thanks for the help. Report this Post to the Staff

It's worth its weight in silver. There are far better coins out there for the date that are not heavily damaged. I'm just not seeing the reason for the interest factor in this. A screw was turned on the top of a metal tube to dispense dimes and the screw would sometimes leave a tell-tale circular scratch on the center of the dime at the top of the stack.
