I agree. The lack of a mintage limit will not affect the value because these coins simply do not sell in huge quantities. Putting a mintage limit on this coin would be like the ones on the ATB silvers (25,000 coin limit) which almost never reach the limit anyway. The mint isn't in the business of creating collector value, even though it has done so inadvertently several times. The 2009 UHRDE did not have a limit, sold over 100,000 coins, and is still worth $2600 (retail) today. Mintage limits are not as important as the average number of coins on the market any any one time vs. the demand.

Maybe I'd get one if the dollar was still as weak as it was back in 2006.

As it stands this is a £1000 coin and I'd get hammered by import duty and VAT when it was shipped to the UK.

Plus the US Mint is notably unfriendly towards foreign buyers. International postage is stupidly expensive.

DB- Man I wasnt aware of that, maybe some will end up on ebay? Would you get one then?

I have seen a ton of negativity on this coin.... which tells me this is gonna be a super smash hit. Furthermore,I think the fall in prices of gold and silver has soured some folks on coins like this.

Finally, this is really a high end coin. Even if say it did 200K,,, man for this type of coin and being a one time deal, this is a unique high end coin for the high end collector. Now, I dont mean to say that only the deep pocket buyers will get this, I think I can see some folks making an excuse in their budgets for this, and rightfully so, its a beauty of a coin.

@ yup

If I'm honest I don't like the design of the coin. You've got a flat angle buffalo doing nothing on one side and some Indian dude on the other? That's nothing special to me. Maybe because I'm not American.

Show me a Philip Nathan Britannia or a Benedetto Pistrucci Sovereign. Now THOSE are beautiful coins.

@Demarco,

Pretty certain numismatic coins with high gold content are exempt from UK import duty. Need to check on HMRC site, but am almost certain of this. In my opinion it's not a bad time to get this since the gold price is low, but I guess it's a tough call for some people with pressed budgets and the volatile gold price. I have not made up my mind on it yet.

Now that the price is out, it's higher than I was expecting. Going to get 22 instead of 24.

I will get one of the reverse proof and one of the regular proof. If the bottom drops out I will pick up graded 70's of each.

I would love to buy either of the gold buffalo coins. They are beautiful and would enhance anyone's collection.

However, all of the gold products from the US Mint exceed my budget, except for the 1/10 oz AGE.

I think silver is extremely under valued at the moment and I have been taking advantage of the low price.

I agree (looking long term)and am also trying to take advantage of this, I have to educate myself about buying some bullion.

I would prefer to buy ASE proof's but am looking to take a larger position in a shorter amount of time so an understanding of bars is what I want to read about next.

I bought one of the ATB 5oz just received it and although it's beautiful to look at and I will probably get the two I'm missing I look at it and not being proof if ever the time came I can truthfully say all I can see is it going into the melt pot I'm just a newbie at this game but I don't see much numismatics value added over intrinsic to this coin.

If I'm wrong someone please speak up and correct me I love to learn.

That's what I did, hope it's a good play that pays off, if not then the niece will have something nice down the road.

Far too expensive for my budget. I would like one, even though I share Demarco's thoughts on the design (I've never really understood the love we have for this design over here), simply because I really do like the look of it as a reverse proof.

I should have bought some gold when I was a kid and it was way cheaper. Then I'd have some in my collection.

I will just sell my other gold coins (at some loss) to get this.
I like it much more better than other modern commemorative gold coins...

Well,,, after seeing the reaction of these coins thus far,,,

I would have gone to the ANA show the first day and bought as many as they let me and graded them and flipped them on ebay.

That said, I am still tempted to buy 10 of them, sit on them in sealed boxes from the US Mint, wait a few months and flip them on ebay, like get 10 or 15 of them.

Its pretty clear the US Mint hit a home run here and this coin is going to have long term value regardless of the price of gold.
