Why do many sellers on ebay choose to not accept Postal Money Orders? I have been using them for the few purchases I have made on ebay and from members here and so far and haven't had any problems as a buyer. Are they a big hassel for the seller? is it that it's not an instant payment like paypal? Or the risk it is harder to get your money back incase of an issue with the transaction? Fishnwidow

With a business that might be dealing with a few hundred auctions at once having to wait for MO in the mail slows things down considerably sometimes. It's more paperwork and hassle for them. However they don't incur the PayPal fees so I think that should count for something but it usually doesn't. I gladly accept MO's so if ya wanna bid on my items that's be swell.

I also have no problem with Money Orders and I even use them to pay some of the sellers I deal with as they are their prefered form of payment.
I actually resisted accepting pay pal for a long time ,, I'm still apprehensive about all of the info that pay pal holds in order to be a verified address and an upgraded premier account ,, but its the way things are !
The sellers who only accept pay pal lose out on alot of really good buyers to make things a little more convienient for themsleves .

I also have no problem for them either, I prefer them infact, screw paypal out of their fees Then again I've sold less than 100 items on there and waiting for it to arrive in the mail gets aggrevating sometimes. But sale wise, I'e gotten 50% paypal and 50% money order with my largest order being paid through a money order

I ask buyer to use only US Postal money orders. It has worked well plus the banks don't put a hold on them & you can cash them at the post office too!!@

I don't like Paypal & only use money orders. I've heard too many horror stories about Paypal freezing funds due to one party of the transaction backing out. However, if you don't take Paypal as a seller you are severely limiting the buyer pool. I consigned with Bobby & Susan because of that.
On a side note, postal money orders are not a guarantee of payment. I own some rental properties & frequently get postal money orders for payment. I have never had it happen to me, but my bank has told me of instances where stop payment orders were put on money orders cashed at the bank.

That is true trdhrdh007. I sold a $57 item and 31 days later, one day after the messages I sent with delivery confirmation number and all had been wiped from ebays system, the guy files a claim for fraud. I even shipped to his confirmed paypal address and saw that it had indeed been delivered. Paypal took my money and after asking them to tell him to ship my items back since they were shipped to his confirmed address, they said they could not email him that. I lost $57 dollars on that transaction.

That's exactly the type of stories I have heard.

I guess it depends if you're a buyer or seller. I hesitate to bid on items that only take checks or money orders. I got screwed out of a computer that I paid with a check. I am still waiting for some of the money to be paid back (The FCC got involved and pursued the case against the seller). With PayPal, I have a chance to get my money back if the seller doesn't send me my items, or if something else happens where I need to dispute something. Unfortunately, bad buyers will take advantage of this system as well. I guess ebay is a stuffshoot and you can protect yourself only so much and then you have to hope you're dealing with a reputable person on the other side of the deal (this goes for both buyers and sellers). A lot of people will use a credit card for PayPal purchases, and if they can't do that, they won't buy an item. I think this is where the non-PayPal seller loses out on bidders. This is not a scientific result, but only my personal opinion based on my ebay experiences.

I'm with Guido on this one. I've had no problems with Paypal, and in fact I was refunded money by them a long time ago for a seller that didn't send the item. As as example why I do not accept anything BUT Paypal on ebay, I listed a relatively high end set of speakers on ebay with a BIN, and accepted Paypal, check, or money order. After three days I had a few bids and quite a few people watching. Then a scam artist came along, used the Buy it now, and wanted to pay via Western Union. Had to re-list, non paying bidder report, etc etc. Long story short, ever since I went to Paypal only, I have not had this problem. Not much you can do except pay for the purchase.
