Gentlemen and ladies, coins are not the only thing that is or has been faked. China is the world leader in production of counterfeit everything. I have been in China very recently and was appalled at the sheer volume of items being faked. In fact, in Beijing, there is an entire shopping mall based on counterfeit products. The political will to take the Chinese government to task over this problem is simply put, not there. Large multinationals have learned the hard way that it is not profitable to set up shop in China because 2 or 3 weeks after the factory is open, there is an exact duplicate of whatever the product is on the market usually for 1/4 of the price. There is no justification proffered by the Chinese government at all concerning " black market" goods.

I've been reporting a lot of Chinese counterfeit auctions for Nclt coins on ebay the past 3 weeks. I wonder if it helps? I've even started contacting the buyer of these coins to educate them, and suggest they contact ebay and report the seller. Many of the buyers weren't aware they bought a counterfeit coin. So far, I've had a good response from buyers. Mike what can you offer on the topic? Will you be having any educational materials from your talk made? I'm a convert to trying to help stop the counterfeit problem. Soon it may be hard for the average person to tell a counterfeit coin just from photos. I'm still a newbie for the most part, and would love a list of coins to watch out for!

I haven't made any large purchases in coins ever.. I am still a buyer at very modest prices and I have really only bought at local auctions or through my LCS.

I just made my 1st coin purchase on the bay at a fellow CCF's ebay auction. It has been a great learning experience and I'm looking forward to seeing some new coins.

I have talked to mike about his presentation of coins... I'm looking forward to giving him a donation to his cause so I can see some of the photos he uses in in presentation.

Mike is an amazing guy.. sometimes spending 1000's of dollars to keep his counterfiet collection current, and so he can identify these coins and report them.

I like reading his post and seeing how he identifies fakes... and I would encourage any of you to attend one of his lectures to protect yourself.
