tracyaw Valued Member United Kingdom 127 Posts	Posted 08/22/2013 06:23 am Anything about the Obverse 2 1862 Penny, and how many varieties? I am thinking two, and I know one has a permanant colon flaw at the end of the legend on Obverse 6. I have a 1862, the colon is perfectly round and not like obverse 6 flaw, but there is no evidence of a signature which is found on Obverse 2. Although the coin is in fair condition, it has a slight corrosion or wear at the bottom of the bust. Are there any other identifying features of Obverse 2 that anyone knows about? EDIT: Two more pics. The Bs in Britt are supposed to be different I can't see it) although the G's look different. The bottom one is the 1862 with perfect colon after D, the top one is of the flawed colon after D on all Obverse 6 Edited by tracyaw 08/22/2013 4:02 pm Report this Post to the Staff

Only the signature can identify an obverse 2 though as far as I know. But as I said every colon on the Obverse 6 1862, has a flaw. The 1862 I have, has no flaw but also no signature that I can make out. I now know where the signature should be as I have seen it on another 1862 Obverse 2 penny, but my coin is corroded in that area. Report this Post to the Staff
tracyaw Valued Member United Kingdom 127 Posts	Posted 08/23/2013 08:06 am Just to finish of this topic, having done much research and looking at both signature and none signature it appears the top colon is a flaw characteristic of both Ob2 and Ob6. Spink's states: Obverse 6: 'There is a prominent flaw on the top stop of the colon after D at the end of the legend'. I wish Spink's included also that the flaw is a feature on some of the Obverse 2, and that not all Ob 6 have the colon flaw.
