Hi Steven and welcome to coincommunity.

There is no such coin struck - looks like some kind of fantasy token. I would value it at scrap metal price.

Chinese coins are heavily counterfeited but this does not match anything that I know of.

Yes a fantasy piece. They are usually sold to tourists in sets that depict the Chinese emperors.
I don't have my collection to hand to identify which this is but not worth anything really.

"Fantasy coins" are coins which never existed as a genuine coin; they have only been created in more recent years. They aren't really "fake", since logically to be a fake there has to be an original, genuine coin the fake is trying to copy. But fantasies are not genuine old coins. They are in effect "just medallions".

"Coins" like this typically sell for a couple of dollars from the street markets.

As strange as it sounds, it is actually a "fake" of a "fantasy" coin!

'Authentic' versions of this fantasy coin apparently exist as evidenced by this NGC slabbed specimen from a Heritage Auction.

Another NGC slabbed specimen apparently sold for $3500 at an auction in Hong Kong.

The "coin" is dated 1916 and the portrait is Yuan Shikai as the Hongxian Emperor.

Unfortunately, no. The 'authentic' "fantasy" coin is made of silver. Also, there are obvious differences in the portrait so your coin is a "fake" with no real value.
