wiggam007 I figure a few will reject them. I figure the hardest to spend will be the 1834 dime.

Make sure you mix them in with other current coins so its harder for people to notice what you're doing, and don't spend them all in the same place. That's a really cool idea though. Good luck.

hey rachums107 I plan to spend them with current coinage and I will not spend them all in one place.

I know the OP means well and it is a noble idea, but these things never work. Every time a well-publicized key date (or obsolete) coin is put into circulation by a large coin convention in town (or something), it is never ever heard from again. Wherever you spend the coin it will either simply be kept by the cashier or just taken to the bank where it will be eventually disappear into a large black void, figuratively speaking of course.

I've been putting Buffalo nickels into circulation for a very long time through roll searching replacement. Usually commons, low grade, or very poorly restored keys dates and not once have I ever heard of anyone finding them. I do a lot of roll searching of only nickels and recycle with the same bank. I have never gotten a single one of my nickels back and I've probably sent a good 300 into the void by now.

Great idea in theory, but these coins will just go to waste. Chances that anybody who actually appreciates them gets them is slim to none. Would be better to offer them to kids at a coin show for free or even offer them up on CCF for a contest or something

hey hesgut I am doing this because I can. I do not care if these coins are not heard from again. all the coins are common years not key dates. if the people who I give them to keeps them good for them if they give it out good for them.

I think it is a cool idea. In any case, please let us know how it goes and if people accept the coins!

Well it happened. I haven't read this thread, but I just found out that I have a rare illness that means I MUST have an operation as soon as possible.

The problem is I'm short $3.78. I know it's a long shot, but I thought I ask you... *sniff* my FAMILY... *sniff* to send me $3.78 you may have just laying around, waiting to spend for something.

If you have $3.78 cents, even if it's in coins and bills, you have the chance to help me with all this pain I'm in. I know most people don't have this kind of money just to GIVE to someone they don't know... but... *sniff* I had to ask.

If you are rich enough to show the world this act of pure KINDNESS, please send me 3 cents, 2 nickels, 4 dimes, 3 quarters, 3 half dollars and a one dollar bill. They can be any year or grade, but the doctor says with the money I've given him so far, he'll only accept the last $3.78 in different US coins and maybe even a old dollar bill and he'll do the operation as soon as I have the money.

As I said, I didn't read what this thread is about (as part of my problem is not being able to understand what my wonderful, kind and giving friends here on CCF are posting.
I just picked a post at random and started hoping.

Well, that's my story and if you happen to have $3.78 you want to spend, just send me a PM and I'll have someone read it to me and I'll send you my address.

I'm too tired to type anymore right now. All I ask is look in your wallet Um, I mean heart and see if you can help me.

Thanks,
*sniff*
Ben
