But wait, if I put it on ebay as a rare-r variety, will it actually get a higher price?

Rarity 5, so rarer than the average Connecticut copper, but I think the selling point would be that it's one of only two 1786 draped bust varieties. Anyone collecting Connecticuts by major variety needs this coin (the only other draped bust variety for the year has only about seven existing specimens).

Vermontensium would be a better judge of whether this coin would carry any premium in this condition.

Nice detective work once again p!

As philadelphian said, if your putting together a Miller # collection, this coin would be desirable not so much by preservation, but rarity. There aren't too many of these out there..higher grades, yes..they come at a price however.

Thanks, v! I guess you're not a Chargers fan out there in Cali, or you'd be otherwise occupied right now!

Well, to ebay I go. I'll start the bidding at $5 with $1 lettermail shipping and see where it goes.

That's what I'd do ;)

Put the Miller # and R-5 in your title/description.

Tremendous sleuthing work (again) by or resident experts Philadelphian and vermontensium.

I always enjoy reading your back and forth ... even though I have zero knowledge on the topics.

To the OP ... appears to be a nice find in the junk bin ... best of wishes with the ebay auction.

Where is the link? I don't see a link to ebay sales in your profile.
