Quote:The T2i and XS will give essentially the same ebay images. For ebay, you will likely downsize to 864 tall. The T2i needs to downsize 4x while XS 3x to give the same image. Very hard to tell which camera they come from once you have made the final images the same size. Ok I see. Thanks for providing the similarities and differences between two models. Since the XS and the T2i are will provide similar images for ebay and the XS seems like it is slightly easier to work with than the TI2, I think I will go to the XS. What do you think of the XS ngs428 posted? It looks good: comes tested, with a few accessories, and only is missing the SD card. Are SD cards generally expensive or hard to come by?

Ray can comment on the link I posted. For the SD card. I assume you are going to use the live view setup, if so, a SD card is not required. The image will save directly to your PC. If you want to buy one, $13 will get you a sandisk 32GB from Amazon.com.

Yes, I forgot about that. That definitely seems like the best way to go about it. Thanks and if Ray confirms the listing, I will take it.

You should download a copy of EOSinfo. Plug in the camera when you get it and check on the shutter count.

My T2i looked as new as your does in the pics Eric. I checked my shutter count when I got it a few months ago and it was just over 1,000. Pretty happy about that! Hoping for a low number!
Let me know if EOSinfo does not work for you (it didn't for me). I found another utility that provides the same info. Called EOS Camera Info.

I have purchased ~40 XS cameras on ebay, and have found that their physical condition (especially rubber grip) correlates well with the shutter count. Not many folks use their camera in a studio setting, so shutter snaps = handling wear.

Hi All, Sorry for the long absence, I was finishing up semester projects and studying for final exams. However, there has been some good progress made on the rig. I have everything purchased and assembled except for the copy stand and diffusion paper. Today, I downloaded the software and began taking pictures! However, I am running into a lot of some problems. Firstly, which dial should I fix the El Nikkor Lense? Right now, I have it at 45, which seems to be the most magnified position. But my shots are still blurry. Furthermore, I cannot adjust the focus on the software. I don't know how to manipulate the software to change the focus from its default and frozen position. Finally, the Digital Photo Professional picture got frozen when I tried to move some pictures from it and now it is unresponsive and I cannot close it or shut down my computer. I will attach some photos. The BU Penny looks better but still has that blur. Decent attempt with a Proof Franklin. Still a bit blurry, but far more defined. Here is a pic of the set-up. Pic of the focus bar not being activated. Any tips/critiques to help me improve are greatly appreciated. Thank you all for the time you all put into this thread to help beginners like me learn.

I have a WORD file which summarizes a few of Ray's setup posts. I can't post the link to it here, it blocks me. I will try to PM it to you. EDIT: I see you don't accept emails...
Set aperture to f5.6 if you're shooting Dimes/Cents/Nickels, or f8 if you're shooting Quarters/Halves/Dollars. That is the setting of the dial on your El Nikor lens.
For focusing, I set my helicoid to the middle position, adjust the height of the camera from the coin until you fill about 90% of the height of the viewing window with the coin in live view. In live view there is a magnification icon you would click on which will zoom into the area of the coin image with the box around it. Use your helicoid to fine focus the image manually.
Set your dial to Av, iso to 100., picture style to faithful. There are many other tips in the word doc. Also, the diffusion material is required.

Eric, I have just started taking pics of slabbed coins, so I don't think I will be of much help on these. For focusing, are you following the step to zoom in on live view and critically-focus on a middle height feature (using focus helicoid), then check quality of focus on the highest and lowest features. Images look good, just a little flat for some reason. But I am learning too, so hopefully others can chime in.
Lighting is always the toughest part. Do you have your diffusion material yet?
