If you can't pick it up for more than $50 I would be patient and wait for a better example. It is probably not wise to spend money just because you want to spend money. But I can't control what you do with your money.

I live in the boondocks, so I can only buy coins at local antique shops or the internet. I've already explained the situation with my LCS. If I can acquire this piece for $50 to $75, I think it would be a decent deal. Type "1800 Draped Bust Cent" into ebay's search function and look at some of the ridiculous asking prices for the same coin in worse condition. The coins that are actually nice are out of my price range at this time. Thanks for taking the time to reply, though. Maybe I should just wait and see what 1893S has to say before I make a decision.  |

I like it in the $50-$75 range. But no more.

I would grade this at VG8. It would receive a details grade. If I had to buy this I would go up to $50

If I were forced to bid on this coin at gunpoint, $50 would be my max bid.

There is nothing better than an old copper. Last I checked they were not makeing anymore of these. (lol) I would top out at $75.00 dollars though.

I am at a coin shop this morning, so I can check the greysheet.
1800 normal date
AG $25
G $50
VG 8 $80
So take into account that the problems with this coin will give it a details grade, meaning it will bring the price down. Then understand that dealers
buy back of greysheet.
Now I am thinking that a dealer would pay in the $25 to $35 range. Also remember problem coins are hard to sell.
I am getting the feeling you are liking this coin, I can understand that. I have coins similar to that one in my collection. I would try not to overpay for it. If it was me, now that I checked the price.
I would feel good getting this coin in the $35 to $40 range. It does sound like you do not have good access to coins, so if you really like it, then $50.

Well, I wound up pulling the trigger on this coin. I offered $50 as was suggested and it was accepted! Here she is under natural lighting conditions: 1800 What's going on in the field behind her head? Is that gunk that's just been on the coin for who knows how long, or is it a mint error?   It has some luvly toning going on, too! Beautiful greenish-blue and purple goodness.  I am very happy with the coin even though it has some issues. It is now the oldest American coin in my collection!  |

I am glad you got the coin .. and like it.
I want to say ...I like the firsts pics better.
With out being negative, can I ask if someone tried cleaning this coin,
it could be just the lighting.
I do agree it is a nice piece of old history.

@GR58: I do not know if the coin has been cleaned, but I am assuming at some point it has been.
The coin's color looks like the original photos. The only reason those colors came out like that was because I held it or shot it at an angle under direct sunlight.
