I have to say that this one is just as hard to see details in hand as in the photo. Meaning the pattern disguises the details. Under a glass the coin shows it's details just fine.

I'm sorry but I do not see this coin benign a woody or making a grade even close to AU55

Again, it is made from an improperly alloyed planchent. Eye appeal is not the distinguishing characteristic. That is like saying something is not a proof because in your eyes it is ugly.
So, Mcshilling. Having full wheat stocks with no to very little wear; fully separated cheek and jaw bones; a fully detailed ear and hair and beard, make this, in your opinion somewhere down in the fine range? Really? But what do I know of grading? I have just been collecting for 50 years, and buying and selling for 20 years. I guess for it to be an AU it has to be fully red with a perfect strike and wiff of wear on a wheat stock.
I said in my post that the graining ( get it, graining, as in the distinguishing feature of a woody)disguises the features. I just put the grade up so that you can get an idea of just how much effect the graining has on trying to see the features.
I really don't think most of you have seen really old "red" Woody Lincolns. These two are my most extreme Woody's. The others are more tradtional, but I guess there is not any interest in doing anything but knocking another collectors finds, so no use in posting the others.
And I thought this was supposed to be fun......

Sorry, but I have to agree with McShilling and LincolnGuy. Just going by the pictures you have posted, I'd grade this coin as maybe FAIR at best. I can't see any date, lettering, or even face. I can't even tell it's a cent from the picture.
Maybe the coin looks much better in person and doesn't show well in pictures.

If it's not your pictures then I would label it environmental damage from being poorly stored.

Here's a high grade (but not MS) woodie that also has eye appeal. I imaged it years ago with my scanner since it's a raw coin. I wouldn't be surprised if I could do better with my camera.  |

Possibly not a AU-55 but maybe a AU-54?   Unless it's a poor photo, sort of looks like a coin out of an Acid bath. |

I've got a 1920 Wheat cent that looks a bit like that one. I can't tell the grade from those photos but it could be au55 in hand.    Edited by CanadianCollector
