Since, there were no Half Cents made in 1837, these were privately issued for businesses to use. They were made during the same time, but it depends on what definition you use. I never knew there were no Half Cents minted in 1837 but some where minted by private organizations. Yours is in fantastic condition considering the age. Really nice coin for a collection.
