I think this set will take a bit of time to appreciate. Last year set didn't appreciate until it was on the shopping channel for an excessive amount. Prior to that, some dealers even have it for boxing day sales. I still have not pull the trigger on this year..

I did. I like it. =P
However, I don't like the cheap clamshell. I really wish they had a proper box for anything over $200.

I like the coins in the set, but not the set as unit. The price, the box and appearance of additional set for short period - these factors I dislike. Yes, after 2012 and 2013 I became more selective in NCLT issues.
However, as I mentioned earlier, will be ready to buy from someone 1oz coin from the set in capsule.

They really should have included a nicer case. It's gilded so that's extra cost but the drop in spot silver price probably offset that cost. For $250, it really should have a maple case.

But it's relative because if some day you want to sell it, the price will start from $250, so it's not like you are losing $50, is just that NOW you have to pay a bit more.

Arianzo, I would be careful assuming you'll be able to sell for at least issue price in the future.
Even last years 25th Anniversary set with the same mintage and lower price was discounted for a while earlier this year. In fact, Gatewest was selling it for $179 (issue at $199).
It was only after the U.S. shopping channel sold a bunch of them for $800 to uneducated people that the set started to appreciate.
IMO, last years set is more collectable because it's tied to the 25th Anniversary of the Silver Maple Leaf.
I did buy this years set though. I really like the design and gilding. I think it will be harder for it to appreciate the 50% that the 25th Anniversary one has though.

Well, there were a few factor affecting last year set. Tt came out the same time that fractional penny set and the 5oz penny were out. So it didn't get the required attention. Those 2 items eat up most of the fund from people. Especially if you buy those two in secondary market. I was happy to able to grab a few of those sets when it was on sale by gatewest last year. The price in secondary increase, as Soulbrother stated, because of the shopping network selling them for $800+.

There were a lot of products offered during 25th SML set debut. The penny set garnered the most attention & cash out of collectors almost making the SML set just for more well off collectors. I did buy 3 penny & 3 SML sets but sold 2 of each (probably too soon) but did profit from them-sold on GC auction site.

Cheap case, 131.50$/oz when the spot is 22$/oz (approximately), except for the design, this set is overprice... Almost all coins of the RCM are overpriced anyway... It's the responsability of the consumer to react and do not buy something who do not worth it...

I had thoughts about waiting to buy the set as well at this price. But caved in the end because I figured I'd buy it for myself for Christmas ( yes I buy myself Christmas presents ) I don't see them coming out with another set till next year. Or at least I hope they won't......

@arianzo, I know NCLT is not Bullions, but I think it's proper to say that the ratio of $/oz should be more realistic... I don't have a graphic to compare this ratio over the last 20 years, but I know for sure that when you buy NCLT 5 or 10 times the price of the spot price of the market, it's overpriced anyway... A ratio of 2-4 times should be more realistic... If in the near future the silver Oz spot price go to 10$, will you be willing to pay for a NCLT 100$ like today? I don't think so... Everyting can happend, the only thing we know for sure is that the NCLT price will not go down and they will stay flat a couple of years when the demand will come back to normal... At this time it's a market of seller (RCM, delers, flippers), but when the scenario switch to a buyer market lots of things could happen...

Mlalonde1977, I do understand what you're saying. However, we live in a free market capitalist society. RCM is free to set their price point at whatever level they wish and you as the purchaser can choose to buy at the set price or abstain. As a business, their primary focus is increasing profits and revenue. Their current business model is showing positive results in both regards so I would say they are achieving and/or exceeding their goals. You don't have to like it but that's the way it is.

Comparing between prices on Numismatic and bullion is just like comparing prices of paintings between famous artists & street artists.
There is no comparison.
It is just supply and demand
If you can afford Picasso's painting and you love it, then just buy it.
If you can not afford it, by showing how much does it cost to buy canvas & paints, and how unfair for the high price. It is a joke to the industry.
