As probably many of you already heard, there is a new coin coming out which would have a murano glass made candy on it.

This would be the same type of glass they used for the LadyBug, Aster, and Butterfly. Those coins sold very quickly, especially the last one due to the fact that a lot more people started collecting coins.

I want to precise that NONE OF THE INFORMATION IN THIS TOPIC IS FROM THE MINT WEBSITE. It all comes from the link below: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Canada-2013...18975&_uhb=1

Specifications of the coin (Which are pretty much alike the Batterfly and Aster):
Mintage: 10000 coins worldwide
Composition: 99.99% pure silver with Murano glass
Finish: Proof with colour with embedded Murano glass candy cane
Weight: 31.39g
Diameter: 38mm

I hope it smell/taste like candy cane.

hey, why don't just stick a REAL candy cane on the coin?

Sounds good, but better to close it in the coin inside the locket, like Perth Mint did with some of the coins.

I am still sitting on the fence about this coin. The image on ebay does not appeal to me.

Below is my own opinion about this coin:

First - as an adult, I find the "Murano Glass Candy" is little "Childish". So I don't think it is a great gift for Adults. I prefer they make the "Murano Glass Star or Ornament instead of Candy".
Second - If consider this is as a X-mas gift for kid. I don't think they will like it. (a little % of kids might). I think they prefer real candies or chocolate to eat.
I did ask my 3 relatives (kids from 6-11 years old) if they want this coin in their holiday present. The answer is "NO".
1 little girl wants an Ipad Mini. And the 2 boys want a PS4 or Xbox One.

Wait to see the real images from Mint. If it is REALLY REALLY REALLY nice. Then I will get one for my own collection. If so so, then I will pass this coin.

Cheers

Well...if you ask to me, I'd say: instead of give me the coin, give me the $150 to me...

I like to display a few coins with Christmas theme around the holiday season, and I think this coin would serve that purpose well.

I asked my kids (9 and 11) if they wanted the coin they said YES!

They will flip it, then buy both the PS4 AND the Xbox One.

I think the design is nice. I mean sure kids like candy canes. But who here didn't grow up eating them every Christmas and heck I still do. The coin serves it's purpose as a coin released for the holiday season. I don't think they will have problems selling this one.

But I think I'll have to chose wisely because that fractional set is already really pricey.

Smart kids canadian_coins. But thinking that my kid will do exactly that when I pass my collection to him makes me cringe.

i believe this coin has the potential to rise in value all the way to Christmas, then it will level off in January. I really think you will see it selling for 300$, in short time. But it will fall in value back to 200ish by January..imho..

After Christmas is a dead coin (except if you like it).

The problem is when RCP is going to ship ...

According to my rep, this one's not selling well at all right now. They over estimated the demand for this type of coin outside of the "bug" series.

Should be lots to go around for those that want them.

This is a seasonal item and nothing else. Looks nice overall but doesn't serve much of a purpose besides "Merry Christmas".
