I just got my ship notice from RCM today. One article by Louis Gollino calls it one of the best coins made in 2013. I look forward to receiving!

I love the coin. Both the 25 anniversary SML look cool side by side.

I think these sort of marketing deals between the RCM and dealers such as ST are diluting and depressing prices on coins such as this one. There is just way too much supply than demand for these RCM coins. The RCM should be appreciative of its loyal coin buyers who buy these coins which are those of you here. Without you guys they would not be doing this sort of thing. The big worry I have is will/if these coins increase in value? I realize many of you buy coins because you enjoy the beauty of them and there's nothing wrong with that but for the prices that are paid, it would only be fair that these coins increase in value over time.

Yup7676, if in average I get my issue price when I decide to sell my coins, I considered myself well served.

yup7676, I agree wholeheartedly!
You collect because of each individual coin. But one also would like to see some appreciation in value for their collection down the road!.
That is why we must keep these thoughts very much alive within the collecting community as well as the new collectors.
I must again say though, that this coin is a real beauty and is worthy to be in all coin collections!

If you are non-dealer seller you are just breaking even or even losing money. Except for the Superman series and a couple of other coins none of the coins from the Mint have appreciated much in price this year. Its nice to collect coins if you like them but don't count on them as an investment. If you want a safe investnent, it is better to put the money into GICs. Beauty of the coin is in the eyes of the beholder. Nice looking coins do not translate to appreciation in price.

I agree, that one should buy the coins for how one likes them or for ones particular taste.
Yet, you know, dropping a hundred dollars here, 200 there, and lets face it, some folks are doing it monthly, it all adds up. SO, I do think its important that at LEAST on the low end, you can get back what you put into it, tho hopefully over time you do better.
That said, even tho this coin is all over the place and the shortage in my opinion or the sell out I should say, is artificial, this is a very beautiful coin, don't get me wrong.
But again, I am from the school that coins should appreciate in value and give you a secondary return besides enjoyment.

Great in theory, but it simply doesn't happen for the vast majority of coins. And I'm not just talking about modern NCLT. Take an honest look at Canada's circulating coinage, from its early days to the present. Within each series, only a limited number of coins have shown true appreciation beyond annual inflation and/or increase in intrinsic value. Most coins are relatively common and have not gone up in "numismatic" value. When they go to sell their collections, most collectors will experience a situation in which a dealer will offer them less than they paid once inflation and/or the market price of their collection's precious metal content (gold, silver) is taken into account. Today's modern NCLT is more of a "product" than a "coin." I believe that most are poor investments. That doesn't stop me from buying pieces that I like, but I don't ever buy them with an eye toward long-term ROI. Just my opinion, of course...

Yea I agree with what you say Commems. I guess I am saying, like someone else said, when making a purchase, even if you are just buying because you like the coin, taken into consideration future price appreciation. I agree, theres tons of coins. Very few will hold or appreciate. But sometimes one can gauge future demand by the type of coin that is issued, why its been issued and how many do they plan on issuing. Dont get me wrong, mintage numbers, even if low, usually dont work either. However, I do think limited time offerings, from say the US Mint do seem to work as an example. I think the single most effective element tho, in determining what coins do well is just watching coins prices on the secondary market such as ebay. the more the price moves, the more demand exists in the market.
