Back in the1990s the place seemed to be downtown at Scotia Bank or at Albern Coins.

Now I see bullion offered at TD and CIBC although I think they have to bring it in.

Would Scotia Bank and Albern coins still be the cheapest when dealing with one ounce sizes or are these newer offerings (TD etc) just as reasonable?

Albern is probably still your best bet, or Calgary Coin Gallery just outside of downtown. The banks tack on ridiculous extra fees to bullion purchases.

My mistake, I'm unsure if Calgary Coin sells bullion but they certainly buy scrap silver and gold.

Obviously I'm a little biased but Albern coin has been the choice of many for years for a reason.

AgCoinAu I honestly have no idea what happened with the auctions. Definitely not something I deal with.

Thanks Gatewest. I always wondered what the connection was since your web sites are the same.

I'm in Calgary and Albern is the only place that I know that sells gold or silver maple leafs. That seems to be there main business now is bullion and foreign exchange. Very limited numismatic supplies and collector decimals in stock these days.

GAtewest it's great to have a larger established dealer join the discussion. It adds a nice perspective. Interesting the connection between the two shops. The prairies need some larger guys. It seems the big boys CC&C / CA are in ont. I didn't know you guys ran auctions? Any info would be great. Maybe a gatewest thread, where members could post questions or you could do your updates from?

Thanks you for all the responses. I have ordered coin supplies from Gatewest in the last two years. I had no idea there was an Albern Coin connection. Since I work just a few km from Albern I imagine it would be a little cheaper than Gatewest when I factor in shipping.

When I talked to someone at TD they admitted that there were cheaper places besides TD to get gold/silver than themselves but did not state where those less expensive places would be.

The whole point of me personally being here to represent Gatewest is so we can have a better connection with our customers and the community in general. It is important for me to have that connection as I want to help our community grow and I feel some "work" is required to have that happen.

I'm not sure I can post everyday or respond to every question so I don't know how effective us having our own thread would be. I would hate to disappoint someone because they felt I had ignored their question. I will certainly continue to pop in here and see what is being discussed and toss my hat in the ring every so often.

Pocketchange... they have their own auctions on their site... the RK auction was just one person's collection.. (and a fantastic one at that)... so really nice to see ... I was more interested to see how many piece actually sold b/c most were well over my price range...

I don't know much of what goes on at Gatewest.. but I do love talking to Chris and many of the other staff over there really seem to want to be in touch with their customers... so kudos... I can't remember exactly when Gatewest picked up Albern.. but given that they're both under the same ownership I would have no reservations in suggesting you check out Albern for gold or silver.. I have always been treated very well over at Gatewest...
