I believe GaryN is more thinking if he finds one on the secondary market at a cheaper price Silveroid. But we appreciate the shout out.

I consider that Silveroid deserves a 10% discount for the next purchase.

Hey arianzo, Silveroid may already be getting a 10% discount if he has a COTY membership. Problem is as everyone here uses a moniker I have no idea who is who.

@ GAtewest & others: I've got a burning question regarding social media & coins! Here it is: is it wise to like or friend a coin business on public places like Facebook or twitter for the average person? My concern is by doing so, I'm letting anyone who reads my profile know I like coins. This could lead a person to correctly assume I collect them, leaving me a target for robbery! Anyone have any thoughts or opinions to share?
People that know me in my town only 3 know I collect coins; ( 1 is my letter carrier). This is something I do not speak about. I only have common commem circulation coins on display. I keep very tight lipped regarding my collection, around people in my town. It's the old adage loose lips sink ships!!
I was thinking of setting up a table at the Christmas craft show; then for above reasons thought better of it! I live in a town of only 10,000 people. It's amazing how many people recognize or know each other! I'm in the valley district, which is almost like a town within a town. On this side we have all the basic stores and services for daily survival. So a person really doesn't need to go to the hill side of town.
I just think it's unwise to call attention to ones self in places one can be recognized and address obtained easily! Over here we are laid back, hardly anyone locks doors, people drop in without calling first. Heck prior to my coin collecting most people would knock, and then just walk right in. Once I started collecting, I've been keeping door locked 24/7. Coins are so small & easy to slip into a pocket unnoticed, it's not like classic cars, golf clubs, paintings, show horses etc. Just like to know what others think?

Thank you guys....even being limited more than previously in the budget, I do not search for "special" discounts. Never disappointed buying from Gatewest (mean service - price), so that's enough.

I see your point of view. There are many ways to dissect this issue and as many opinions I'm sure. I can not definitively answer the question for you pocket change 50. But my personal feelings are that I'm aware of my cyber footprint but I do not let it control me. My personal Facebook and Twitter accounts consist of my friends and family who I trust or they would not be there. I set my parameters to allow just who I want to see my postings and ramblings. As for Gatewest I can tell you with our Facebook account all that is displayed is the total amount of people that like us. I can't even look up a list of who has liked us with out a ton of leg work. The only names shown are of those who like our status' or share our postings. Your concern for personal security is warranted I'm sure but for me it's not the biggest concern. But again I'm not a coin collector. Having been in this business for 15 years I have only ever bought 3 items and those were low value.

@ GAtewest I'm impressed at your restraint 15 yrs and 3 low value coins; all the while working in the coin shop. If I was in your shoes, my pay check that wasn't needed to pay life's neccessarities would all be spent in the store.
My question is to learn what others are doing concerning coins & social media. The rate technology is evolving daily I find it hard to keep up with security issues. I barely use Facebook it's there so people who I've lost contact with can find me. I can't even figure out how to set up a Facebook page for my own webstore. I think safety concerns may be different for people in smaller communities. GAtewest I enjoy reading your postings, and hearing what you have to say!

Certainly off-topic (and I'm not sure where the recent thread on social media went) but personally, I don't identify myself on FB or Twitter as a coin collector by liking, following, commenting or tweeting about anything related to coins. I also don't tell anyone that I'm a coin collector and the bulk of my collection is not in my home.
It's easier to lock down security on FB but on Twitter, if you protect your followers/following you also protect your Tweets and it essentially become "anti-social" media; it's nothing more than a newsfeed at that point. I don't bother with the other forms of narcissism like Instagram, Pinterest, Tumblr etc.
It's ok to say that you only allow friends to interact on social media but random crime is relatively rare. You are much more likely to become the victim of crime via someone you know and trust.
Small town or big city, the dangers are pretty much the same in my mind.
