Quote: CC-Ottawa For what it's worth, my rep gave me no information about the sub and it wasn't included in any of his pre-release e-mails.
I received this email with info about the GL a couple of days after the MC members release: ------------------------------- Bonjour, Nous avons fait le lancement officielle de cet nouvel abonnement! Les 5 grands lacs. La date officielle était supposé être le 8 Novembre, mais pour quelques raisons nous avons devancé le lancement de quelques semaines! Si vous désirez commander, veuillez simplement me laisser savoir! -------------------------------------- TranslationHi: We have officially released this new Subscription. The 5 Great Lakes. The official date (release) was supposed to be on November 8th but for some reasons we have advanced (brought forward) the release some weeks! If you want to order, please let me know.

Quote: But please do not forget: if the set itself not serialized (common additonal COA), so we speak only about amount of wooden cases and not the coins, which almost (if not at all) doesn't have any influence on the "rarity" of the coins. Sure it doesn't make the coin more rare, but it give more value to the completed set "with case", or case only, which can go very high for nice case and display. Go7 case was a good example of this, when the box alone reached 250-300$ at some point. The box of Great Lake seems to have the COA being "part of the presentation", probably like the Go7 where the COA had the paint picture on one side of the COA so displaying the coin and the color paintings just above is a nice presentation.

But at 1,500... I would guess it would be sold out already. Not sure, as the coins are pricey, but still.

Exactly yesterday, to be more correct, today at 1 AM put mine (still 6) Go7 coins to the subscription box. Waited for the 7-th, but is still "processing". Yes, I put the COA's the way, that the painting will be on the front, above the coin (I saw, if you will display "French picture", you do need to fold the COA to other direction).
So....since the GL sub will also have dedicated COA's per each coin, and not specific set-COA, it make the set "less special", but I will agree, that the boxed presentation is much better and unique, and the box itself will be re-sold for nice price.

Regarding the mintage numbers, I'm hearing 1500-4000, but on the Mints web site it says 10,000!! Whats up with that?

tfred: You are reading COINS not boxes.

@ tfredThis is getting ridiculous. There are supposed to be 10,000 of each of the five coins in the series minted. According to the only written information coming from the RCM, the number of subscriptions for the five coins (which means subscribers will receive a special display box) is 1,500. Anything else one hears is strictly rumour.

so 1500 of each coin will be issued to go with the wood display box, and 8500 will be issued in the usual clam shell case.

This is correct, but simplified. Assuming, that the amount of subscriptions will be 1500, means, that 1500 of first coins will be sent as "Die cut" (in kind of holder in bubble envelop), then the 1500 of the boxes will ready to be sent with the 2-nd coin. What will heppen with the rest of the coins (3-rd, 4-th, 5-th) not clear, due to cancellations that will follow. so for sure somewhere will be 1500 boxes, majority of them will be utilized by people to contain the GL sets (via subscription, or collected one-by-one). And this means that amount of the "subscription-free" single coins may be less, than 1500 that in the sets. All the uniqueness of the "shared" subscription - display box. Personally, I believe, that RCM will sell the GL subscriptions, till the 1-st coin will be sold-out. If they can mint 10.000 of the coins, I do not see the reason that they can not order same amount of boxes (actually they failed with O Canada 1/2oz sub)

You're quite right Silveroid, the RCM is capable of doing anything. How ever, in this case I would hope that collectors will stand together and demand, yes demand that they stick to the original number of 1,500 boxes. Now if the mint decides to eventually paint the edges of the Great Lakes coins with sickly brownish green colouring, and limit these to 800, and offer an exclusive cardboard box ,soaked in sardine juice, and all for just $1,199.95, I would have no problem...

At the risk of opening another can of worms, how is it that 'all people know have a 5000 boxes mintage'?
I can't find any official notification from the Mint that the duck sub was limited to just 5000.
poboxw please let us know what your rep says. Frankly, I don't believe everything that my rep tells me OR send in e-mail. It's nice that some people received something from a rep saying 1500 but that doesn't make it true. Two months ago, my rep sent me an e-mail in which the Eagle coin was $39.95 and someone reported this month that they had notification that the Iconic polar bear mintage was 10k. Both of those turned out to be wrong.
