looking through my collection and found this i it bought when I first started collecting at the local coin store i was 15 years old and was so excited to have such an old shiny coin looking back it is now an important learning lesson ive always been one to learn the hard way and this is one of them sitting in a 2x2 flip all these years you can see that ugly toning to the surface of a highly cleaned coin i guess now I'm saddened the original beauty of this coin is lost forever

Yeah, I've made more mistakes in this hobby than my wallet cares to think about (if a wallet could think that is). This coin looks like it's been polished but you can probably put it to good use though. I have a few coins like this that I keep in a desk at work and touch and feel periodically. I might be on a phone call and will grab a coin to flip or hold. I have another one that I use as a large putting green marker. That always becomes a nice conversation piece too. There's lot's of neat possibilities for that old coin.

Not yet, it isn't. This is a perfect candidate for a pocket piece. It's a "show and tell" coin which might just, under the right circumstances, inspire a youngster to become a collector. Especially if you happen to give it to the right one....

carry it around for awhile and you should see gradual improvement to it's appearance

I love looking at coins here on the forum, but I cringe to look at much of the collection I put together as a child. Glad to know that I wasn't the only kid who thought that "shiny" was good.

Been packing it around ever since, always in company of a couple other assorted coins. Always wonder what it was like to walk around in the roaring Twenties with a few coins in one's pocket.. What could they buy back then? Interesting to watch it develop a patina over time, even more interesting to see folks react when I show them, most have never seen one..

As to the grade, it looks around VG-10, maybe F-12.
