I have never came across any in change. Started checking the coinstar machine but its always empty. Always keep an eye out though.

I have decided to give up on using coinstar. I still check though. Free money is the best kind of money!

I started looking when I was a kid (early 90s), and I think I've checked every quarter I've ever laid hands on. During that time, I found two 1964-D's--one in change from a gas station, and one that came through at my old work about 4 years ago.

I'd say that the only silver quarters that pop up in circulation are probably escaped from collections or silver hoards.

A 1960-D in change today from Mickey D's.

I think a few can also bounce around from change jar to change jar, Finn. A lot of people squirrel away pocket change for many years, then finally take it to the bank. One thing for certain is once they hit active circulation they are snapped up pretty quickly by someone wise to their value.

Not sure how many I've found since I was a kid. I'd say about 4-5 after 1975. I put my hands on a lot more as about 40-50 percent of change was silver in 1970, when I noticed they were different. By around 1974 or 1975 they were pretty much gone.

Two. One '60D found in change from a burger joint drive through. Heard the sound of silver and the lady thought it was fake, I told her I'd take it anyway. Other was from when I worked retail, a '64D.

Other than that, I've either traded or bought all the silver quarters I have.
