I bought this recently on a whim. Normally I don't look at 10 cents but I thought I might perhaps get an upgrade on this. It is now in an old holder with the embossed certificate. I am pretty sure I am going to send it in, but I would be curious to see what people think that this would get today. Sorry, but the holder is kind of old and scratchy. Very nice coin.
Looks like an ms64, maybe ms63 (I don't think it would grade ms65).

Fields look unmarked ,...but also a bit out of focus and that can hide some fine contacts.
Still looks to be a nice 63 or 64 ...if we could see the Obv fields sharper.

I forgot to ask what's the ICCS grade on the old holder?

Wow if you think it will upgrade I think it should be MS64 so the certificate maybe says MS62? Bob

I am being a bit greedy on the upgrade...it is already in a 64. But even if the chance of a 65 is only 1 in 10, it is worth taking the chance I would say. The photos don't do the coin justice. I had it side by side with some other ICCS 63s and 64s of the same vintage and this one is a lot better. Here is is, now out of the holder.....

ICCS is very tough on KGV dimes.
I should know as I had about 80% of the series in ms65 at one time.
Hopefully, yours will go 65, but I have my strong doubts.
It's 100% about the fields when separating an ms64 from an ms65 with these dimes and yours has a little 'chatter' at 9pm and 4pm that I believe, will keep this one at an ms64.
Additionally, there's zero chance of them grading it an ms63.

should 64 again but they can be real tough. A chance that it could 3 and no chance it will 5. I have a 1919 in 5 that we just sold to a customer and it was much nicer in eye appeal. Give it a go and let us know!

Thanks for the thoughts. You are probably right that it will come back the way it was. But at a cost of $8 for the possibility of an extra $500 or more in value I will go for it. It will be a while for the news though. I have just submitted some items and it will be quite a while before I have enough to try again.

I'd argue against the 'extra $500'.(more like an extra $180).
Trends in 64 is $200 (and sells for about $120); trends in 65 is about $400 to $500 (and sells for about $300).

Wow ..Thanks for posting these clearer pics...
It really makes a difference when looking at near perfect fields ..that are in better focus..
Very nice piece...
I also have an older ICCS MS 65 in the George V series,..but there are absolutely no contacts anywhere on the coin...but they are less strict about that now.
Even the Charlton catalogue now allows for some fine contacts in their MS 66 grading explanation... so what will it be...?
